miss diminutive: Many of the girls who were approached last year were in their teens. Some patients have a body mass index as low as 14.Ok, that's just despicable. The last thing girls need when they are struggling with their body image issues is to be given reinforcement that can truly fark them up at such an impressionable age. I'm already on the thin side of he spectrum and my BMI is just over 16.5. Someone at 14 must be literally skin and bones.
KatjaMouse: dragonchild: KatjaMouse: If I recall correctly this was a science writer who's background was neuro-science so she may have even been comparing some of her own experiences to what she was picking up academically around the same time that this was going on.Wait, it was the neuroscience writer who was the anorexic? My point isn't to say that I'm right; if there are cases of starvation-induced euphoria I've never heard of them but that doesn't mean they don't exist. If some outside source actually confirmed this fine. My point is that you can never, EVER trust an anorexic's taken on their own disorder, no matter what their credentials are. Anorexia and pathological dishonesty are so inseparable they're practically fused into one -- after all, the self-image issues can't be sustained in the face of all evidence if they weren't clinically delusional.Yes, it was the science writer who was the anorexic. However she wasn't relaying this story as a good thing. She was sharing her story of struggle and her hardest reason for kicking the starvation was because it made her feel great. And she admitted that it was part of her sickness (she was very adamant about referring to it as a sickness as well) and was telling the story of her recover and subsequent struggles as well. Like if she's been shut in working she'll have a friend actually calling her up and ask if she's eaten something and basically badger her until she agrees to leave her work and make a proper meal.
