There is a live performance that actually isn't bad, but this one...that is the sound of Autotune, people. Which is a shame, because her tone sounds pretty good.

With Taylor Hicks cameo.

Good for her. At least she didn't blow it on something stupid and actually invested in herself.

Her 15 minutes are long past, but who knows? She could have a future as a novelty act -- the sort where people go to see her ironically, find out she's just mediocre, and leave confused about whether they should love her or hate her.

I'm not so sure. I've heard worse, she's easy on the eyes.
Folks have went much further with less.

Reality stars get paid more, Youtube personality gets more viewership and some actually have talent. I guess it all depends on your priorities

It's pretty awesome when popular, powerful comedians team up to bully a 13 year old because she starred in an aspirational pop video that her parent's bought her as a birthday present.  Especially given the well known history of death threats, harassment and other normal internet behaviour towards women.

Unless she runs as far away from Friday as she can, she will never have a career.   Listening to the new track now.  She's not awful.  The biggest problem with Friday was the corny video and terrible, terrible lyrics.

If you wondered what her "background dancer" is doing now, well, it seems the Huffington Post has even lower admission guidelines than I previously thought.

"vocal lessons" is just another term for "blowing a record executive?"

Have a hit song, then learn to sing? Not the normal way to go about it but good for her. I guess I don't hate her as much as most Farkers because I've never bothered to watch her video since I'm not into teen pop. At most I've heard a 5 second clip or 2 introducing stories about her. That was enough for me to decide I wouldn't enjoy the whole thing. And no I didn't watch this video either. I'm not Rebecca Blacks target audience.

There were a lot of people who said a lot of nasty things about Rebecca Black, but how the hell is the Colbert & Fallon cover bullying her. I personally thought it was a tongue in cheek tribute that played out as a backlash to the backlash. I bet she got a huge kick out of it. She even participated in a couple of Funny-Or-Die Friday parodies.

This is a vast improvement. Now she should work on her lip synching.

Not better singing, just autotune; nothing to see here.

2013-04-23 10:52:51 AM
She did some a capella singing in interviews when Friday was big. She wasn't great, but she wasn't terrible. I'm not surprised to see her sing something like this after a few more years of practice.

I doubt she'll ever become a successful mainstream singer, but good for her for keeping at it.

1) I think you're completely wrong. She needs to embrace it and strongly. Why does she need to be embarrassed? If she shows how much she likes the song where will be an opening for people to make fun of her.

1A) Hanson in the case in point. They still play 'MmmmmBop' and aren't ashamed of it and have made some darned good music since then; maybe not the hipster-kind that YOU like but then you don't speak for anyone but yourself.

2) She's got a good voice and is easy on the eyes. LOTS of singers have gone far with less than that.

3) She sounds like Rhianna? Funny but I don't hear any auto-tune at all.

So you're implying that 15 year old girl gave oral sex to a record producer for a second chance?

Wow. You're one helluva POS aren't you.

Loser.

She's underage I think, and I want to say this without sounding pedotastic, but she was borderline Punky Brewster when I saw her.

I don't care if she sounds any better. I just want to see her boobs.
She is over 18 now, isn't she?

Nothing says "I'm over the hill" then making fun of what's current.
The next step in the world is the internet. People make good livings being "youtube personalities". It's also a place to find honestly very good ones that wouldn't get hired at TV networks because they don't know who to schmooze, or they don't want to snake their way up the ladder.

"Clearly, Rebecca has invested in some type of vocal lessons and I'd say it was money well-spent. "

How does some schmuck's thoughts that she-sounds-better-so-she-must-have-spent-her-money-on-lessons mean anything?  Friday was a gawdawful song with no heart or soul and she had no experience at the time.  It's been, what, two or three years since then -- maybe she's gained some vocal control and matured and, in this example, picked a better song.

2013-04-23 02:16:33 PM
"Vocal lessons"? That is an odd way of spelling autotune.

And I believe it's derogatory to refer to a woman's breasts as "boobs", "jugs", "winnebagos" or "golden bozos".. and that you should only refer to them as "hooters".

(Note: "hooters" was not in common parlance at the time.)

Not necessarily true in all cases. Jenna Marbles, for instance, makes pretty absurd money right now, and she's just a Youtube personality. She's pulling in between $50k and $100k a month.

In other news, it's now just that easy to manufacture a pop star. The RIAA should give up CISPA and start refunding money.
