Well, an 8-bit CPU of a traditional design is impossible.  Processors up through the 16-bit era had no caching mechanisms; they read each instruction from memory right before executing it.  Even modern RAM is not fast enough to run in such a manner.

I suppose that you could have a 1-GHz Z80 or something if all its RAM were on-chip.  That would avoid the limitations imposed by the speed of electrons.

Yikes, I was going to buy tickets for the one in Atlanta.  Absolute nosebleed off to the side where you can't see shiat tickets started at $80.
