billygeek: good. boring show.

How does it feel having a room temperature IQ?

So... I could write the perfect final episode or final montage. But only if you promise to either never renew it or make the montage canon. Quickly progress through the wedding, married life, parentage of Fry & Leela, all the way to old age. Sort of a "get it over with already" type episode.

At some point they should do an episode where Hermes limbos under a shark.

Too bad everything's already been written without knowing they'd be cancelled.

ThatGuyFromTheInternet: Lord Dimwit: I hate to say it, but it had gone really downhill ever since the move to Comedy Central.

(1) Fry got too smart.
(2) The on-again-off-again Fry/Leela thing was getting old and just seemed too arbitrary
(3) Too much Scruffy. Scruffy was funny because he was essentially an unknown character.
(4) Too much juvenile humor. When they moved to CC they used their newfound freedom to make easy jokes that weren't funny.
(5) Too much focus on secondary characters. Sorry.

QFT, and this was the sharkjump for me:
[shoutomaha.com image 540x370]
Maybe it's not even a true sharkjump, as those usually expand a series too much, while this is what told me they were just phoning it in.

The only episode of the entire show I cannot stand. I prefer to forget that this abomination does exist.

However these last few seasons have gave us: Inspector 5; The chart room; The best use of "Clampdown" in TV history; Swivel surprise chair; 1st place sausage; a dog-operated human suit modified for cat-use; the Sith-il war; Zapp and Leela's mom; Mouth mutant; the land Titanic; Calculon's death scene; a president's live birth right before the election; Pickles (and a vision of bender sharing); the cool crime of BurgleurgleArsony; the original Planet Express crew (and maybe Zoidberg with hair); Space Yeti; Dr. Banjo;  and whatever these last dozen episodes have.

Agreed with most of what you said, but the crime is burgalarsonarsony as in burglery, larceny, and arson.
Hopefully the last half season will be good.

Throw the Simpsons into the death pit too. At least they've earned it by really phoning it in for a decade.

The only place where the show could continue AND get better is probably on Netflix.  No restrictions of time limits, no dealing with commercial breaks, no intrusions by network heads, just backing and a built in audience that already goes there to view the past episodes.

Also, no strict deadlines on writing. They'd have the time to craft good storylines and such and could release them in mini-series. Especially with a short hiatus before they start up again.

Move it to Adult Swim!

Maybe one of the Professor's doomsday devices *is* a fridge!

Or they could do TARDIS jokes and all crawl inside Bender. Or go double meta when Bender takes care of a  kid that swings around a wooden sword. "I don't know why, but there's something familiar about him."

What a shame. Futurama at 80% funniness is still among the top 3 cartoons on TV (South Park and Archer, IMO). And as many have said, if it's a good one there is nothing better.

Wonder if there is any chance of Adult Swim picking up the rites to it if CC and Faux are done with it?

I'm sad anytime a scifi show dies.

I have to admit, I havent really bothered watching new episodes as they air... but that doesnt mean I like it any less.  Just means I try to catch reruns etc, which are on all the farking time.

Thank God, now they can air more reruns of Tosh.O and give shows to some more stand up comedians that last 5 episodes...Jeff Ross I'm looking at you. Jeselnik and Shumer you're next.

Came here to post something like that. Additionally, there have been tons of science-based episodes, like the one on the grey goo problem or the body-switching one where they came up with their own algorithm.

As much as I want to say "shut your whore mouth when talking about Futurama!".......(sigh). I have to admit that you're right. Damn you, sir! At least I will always have my Bender tattoo with him holding a cigar and bottle of Makers Mark.

I think the time is right. The show's quality since its return has been woefully inconsistent, and we just haven't had enough gems like The Late Philip J. Fry to justify its continued existence. When it ends, it'll will end as one of the greatest animated shows of all time that never went to total shiat at the end. (see: The Simpsons, South Park, King of the Hill, Family Guy...)

/Bender's Big Score was the best of the new material.

People say this, but what does it hurt to have a show on even if it's not good anymore?  All you have to do is turn the channel to watch something else.  Besides I'm sure if Simpsons ever does go off the air it will just get replaced with another Seth McFarlane show.

It personally offends people how bad the show has been for the last (5,7,10,12,15) years they haven't been watching it since it is so awful.

Much like Futurama, I still enjoy the Simpsons. And much like Futurama, it's a lot better than what they are going to replace it with.

My wife and I took about a 2.5 year break from Simpsons. No re-runs, no specials, not the movie, not anything. Then we went back and started watching on Sundays. You know what? It wasn't super fresh, but it's actually still pretty good. I think our generation has just gotten burned out after 20+ years of new episodes and continuous syndication of reruns.

I'm wondering if we're at the same point with Family Guy right now. Stopped watching it last year after the hour-long episode of Brian eating Stewie's poop in the bank vault... no idea if the current episodes are that bad.

Yeah, even im done with Southpark. Just boring.

I love futurama but season 7 was mostly awful. When the first episode is the high point of the season, you can tell the show has run its course.

Which is a shame because Season 6 was fantastic (minus 1 or 2 duds)

One of my favorite series on TV but time to let it go.

//or send it to netflix like people have been suggesting. Give them plenty of time to write and take away censorship restrictions.
