Endive Wombat: When Google did away with a significant amount of porn in the image search, I was happy. This too makes me happy. I am not a prude, but when I search something relatively innocuous, I should not get hardcore porn.
abhorrent1: Why is this erotica crap so popular when probably 99% of the women who read it would probably never be willing to do the things they read about in the books?
yet_another_wumpus: They aren't just segregating it? There's a reason it comes up so much: it sells. From what I understand it pretty much keeps the second hand book business going. I can only hope that Barnes & Nobel jump in and push the porn (and manage to keep brick and mortar bookstores alive). My understanding is that book porn is like movie porn. You could divide the publishing industry into 20 genres of porn and non-porn and the non-porn will still only contain relatively tiny array of titles. All that competition, and one of the best science fiction writers Lois McMaster Bujold is still trying to break into porn (I'm guessing she is going more for the 50 shades of grey level than the "buy the lot unseen" mentioned above).
FedExPope: Endive Wombat: When Google did away with a significant amount of porn in the image search, I was happy. This too makes me happy. Evil Mackerel: rzrwiresunrise: kid_icarus: Lady porn gives women unrealistic expectations about real life men. I should not be expected to maintain washboard abs, romance you, AND ravish you nightly with unbridled passion and ecstasy. All that after I get out of my firefighter uniform, put up my purple heart that I earned in the war, right next to the Daytona Cup I won just for you so I could prove I was more than just the secret heir to an oil fortune my father built from his castle in Scotland. Are you an astronaut?
mike_d85: abhorrent1: Why is this erotica crap so popular when probably 99% of the women who read it would probably never be willing to do the things they read about in the books?Because knowing SOMEONE is into something 1000x weirder makes you comfortable with your weirdness.
Gergesa: CygnusDarius: You do know that Fifty Shades of Grey started as a Twilight fanfic? At least this is how the story goes.I don't mind fanfiction really, but the writers need to not be lazy and put some effort into it. There shouldn't be spelling/grammar errors every fifth word.Still I suppose it is better than being a freeper.
K.B.O. Winston: As someone who just bought a new laptop with her gay romance novel royalties, I'm not sure how concerned I should be about this. More exposure is better (insert 'especially in porn' joke here) but my impression was that some people buy whatever is new as long as the cover looks good, some people buy things if they're on the best-seller lists, and other buy things when they're free.I'm not sure how many people search on Amazon, accidentally get some porny results, and then buy the porn instead of what they were originally looking for. This may be a tempest in a teacup, sales-wise.
Gergesa: I have sometimes contemplated writing a hardcore story and seeing if it sells on a site like this(price it as 2.99 or something.) If Fifty Shades of Grey can sell well despite deplorable writing perhaps it is a surprisingly lucrative market where a story involving gang bang on prom night in a church with the football team will do well.
Grables'Daughter: TheShavingofOccam123: But Amazon has no problem allowing scam artists to sell on Amazon.com. Dollar bill, dollar bill, dollar bill.I don't understand what you mean...
JohnAnnArbor: "Pornocaust" could be a good band name, depending on the band.
Thoguh: Good. All the porn for lonely housewifes made it basically impossible to find anything in the Kindle store.
