(Dumbass Daily)   Pro Tip: If you're going to bring TV cameras into your store to dispute health dept findings that you're infested with roaches, best to get rid of the roaches beforehand. Or you could kill them by hand in front of the reporter   (dumbassdaily.com) divider line 22

Rrrrrroaches!

I have worked in multiple food establishments with varying degrees of cleanliness, so I find this guy getting busted by tv reporter being invited in is just priceless.

However what comes to mind, a small convenience store with the family name Roaches.  Not kidding, it didn't close down but instead the owner sold it and moved on in the late 80's.  The new owners changed the name and then the place went down hill.  I thought the place was pretty cool, I would go buy my snacks whenever I had the money from Roaches.  I hated the new owners, they were mean and the place started to get nasty.

Roaches are tough. We had them in the submarine, including the reactor compartment.

/no, they didn't glow in the dark.

Means you guys didn't keep the galley clean.  Starving them out with cleanliness goes a long way, even with a pest control guy coming in.  We had an infestation once in our home, the first thing I did was start teaching our kids how to do a proper cleaning of the kitchen after EVERY meal, even snacks.  I made them clean everything after the manner restaurants are suppose to.  We did end up calling an exterminator and we had to prove to the guy that we even had an infestation.  He told us that he had never had a cleaner house to get roaches out of, he said most homes he deals with calls him only after the homeowner is forced to and is likely to call him again in a year or so.  The roaches were gone very quickly after that, without another sign once it was all done.  We figured out how they got introduced to our home and have been very careful about that relative coming over ever since.

We had a local restaurant that got a really bad inspection and it made the news. They cleaned things up and  the story died down until a few weeks later when a passerby took this cell phone pic one afternoon when the restaurant was closed:

Once the rat pic made the news, the restaurant was pretty well doomed.

I know! Kind of grimaced at that casual racism/goofy reporter. But yeah. That guy needs to take care of that vermin.

In 11 years as a food establishment owner, I've had maybe 3 mice. I think just 2, though. And a few little ant colonies. See bugs/mice, put out traps, problem solved overnight. But if I ever came to work and found a single solitary roach, I'd FREAK THE FU*K OUT and get the place exterminated for probably 5 days in a row and in the meantime shut down for "scheduled maintenance."

Holy crap. I run a kitchen out of a wall tent for hunting camps and I can keep that clean enough to keep the rodents and bugs away. How little pride must the chef have for his kitchen before it gets like that?

Didn't even do a proper job washing his hands after he smashed it...

That reminds me a of a popular Greek restaurant in downtown Portland, The Greek Cuisina. Everyone loved the place. People went there for wedding parties, proms, birthdays etc.

I finally decided to see what all the hype was about and went there with a couple of friends. As the the waitress brought the menus, a small cockroach scampered across the table. We walked out, loudly letting the wait staff know exactly why. I called the Health Department when I got home.

They finally got shut down a couple of years later for various code violations, but people still fondly talk about it.

Maybe because a couple roaches are really no big deal.

So, the one roach on the table, plus one more roach hidden in the wall? LOL

Maybe not to you, but it wasn't a great first impression to me.

Know how I can tell you don't live on the Gulf Coast?   When you live in an area where the roach population lives primarily outside, it doesn't matter how clean you keep your house.   You will need to employ an exterminator routinely.

None of that compares to a dining experience of mine when I was 6 years old. I went with my aunt and cousin to a cafe in Manila. Stray cats climbed in from the windows and rubbed our legs to try to get us to toss them some food. I even had one cat jump onto the table and attempt to eat from my plate! The waiter was able to chase it off the table but it still lingered inside the cafe.

The cats were nothing compared to the beggar children who were peering in from the glass doors. Try enjoying your meal when you see kids your own age in rags stalking you from outside. When we left the place the kids surrounded us begging for food or money. My aunt tossed them a few coins and they ran off. We continued on our merry way...
