Ya... saw this coming.

While I really want the Blues to miss to keep the Bouwmeester streak alive, that's probably not gonna happen. So I'm hoping real hard that the Red Wings don't make it and that Columbus does, though the former has two games in hand on the latter, and are only down by 3 points.

2013-04-22 08:50:29 AM
Thank God.

Now onto the Red Wings. So sick of those two teams always being in the mix. Let Columbus start its own 20 year playoff run.

The best part is that people are complaining that teams that usually make it aren't making it this year and teams that don't are.  It's like "OMG, parity!  So evil!"

That said, the Devils had a rough year, and anyone upset that their team isn't making it should be grateful that it's at least only half a year to be invested in.

2013-04-22 09:18:39 AM
Going on 10 game losing streaks in a shortened season will do that.

Especially when it's preceded by a 6 game losing streak a week of two earlier.

One year left for Marty. Think he'll call it quits after next year?

Hey Devils, you're going to suck for years to come, and Satan is still active in the KHL. Go for it.

Best player defects to Minny, half your coaching staff gone, lose your goalie and top scoring threat for more than 10 games each - and they didn't make the playoffs?  Go figure...

That's a shame...

Having said that, I'm not really all that excited about the Bruins' chances in the playoffs... I think for the first round match up, ideally, I'd like to see the Islanders, but still a few more games to go.

The Dallas Cowboys of the NHL.

As of right now, the 4-5 match-up in the East is Habs-Leafs. I hope that series happens, just because I think it'll get really ugly & chippy and you always need one solid old time hockey series.

If only.  We'll see what happens when CBJ moves out East, where they should have farking been to begin with.  I couldn't care less, I'm just happy that the Rangers are coming to me more often than once every 2 years. :)

That should be as epic as last year's Philadelphia vs. Pittsburgh slugfest.

I think with the Wings, it'll come down to tonight.  If they don't get 2 points against Phoenix, you may as well just cross them off.

They can have it.  I think the Rangers will wing up around 5th or 6th.

Yeah, couldn't handle those two injuries and the long bouts of losing that accompanied them, especially not in a 48-game season.  Alas, onto next year...and rooting for the Rags' eventual elimination this year, heh.

The Jackets just need to win out and hope the Wings don't go at least 3-0-1. I said at the beginning of the season they could win 20 games but I never expected them to make the playoffs. But I guess I didn't think Chicago and the Ducks would hog all the points at the top and things would bunch up so much.

All season I've been watching them closely, and I actually hope they take 7th place because they sure wouldn't make it easy for Chicago.

Not sure if that's even possible anymore...this 8th seed race makes my head spin. I need a pictoral diagram.

I couldn't get one submitted. I think this should be it. I'm putting together my notes for the different points standings right now. I'll post it here shortly, along with a playoff scenarios listing.

The NHL alternate points systems standings through Sunday's games

Of the current 16 playoff teams:

International rules- 15 of the 16 still make it, with Columbus and Dallas swapping spots. The top 9 in the East all hold their positions.
Revised 3-pt system- 14 of 16 stay in. In the East, Ottawa and Winnipeg swap spots. In the West, Dallas moves in and Columbus drops a spot.
Old NHL rules w/ties- again, 14 of 16 are in. In the East, the Islanders drop out and Winnipeg moves in. Out West, Columbus drops and Detroit goes in.

Another comparison I want to make is how many teams still have a shot at a playoff spot as of this morning.

NHL:
West- 4 have clinched, 4 have been eliminated leaving 7 teams still eligible
East- 4 are in, 6 are eliminated leaving 5 teams fighting for spots

International:
West- 3 clinched, 3 eliminated. East- 4 clinched, 5 eliminated.

Revised:
West- 4 clinched, 3 eliminated. East- 4 clinched, 5 eliminated.

Old NHL:
West- 4 clinched, 2 eliminated. East- see above.

I will be updating the spreadsheet every day this week (either right after the final game of the night ends or the following morning).

Assuming we have a final weekend of the season thread, I'll post after the last game the final updates and statistics.

Playoff scenarios to come in a couple of hours. It's going to take a while to get it all right.

Good thing the Devils didn't surrender the 29th overall pick last year, eh?  And they obviously won't do it this year, so they better hope they rebound next.

Meanwhile, the Oilers were officially bounced as well.  Not that that should surprise anyone.  They had that five game win streak to offer false hope, but have otherwise been unable to string more than two wins together at a time, and did that only twice.

OK, here's the playoff info. I wanted to get more into this, but I felt my brain explode has I worked on the scenarios for winning the Northeast Division. So I just have the basics and the schedules for every team that can move up or down in the standings;

Eastern Conference

Pittsburgh- locked into #1 seed

Clinched playoff spots- Boston (current #2), Montreal (#4) and Toronto (#5)

BOS is #2 and leads Northeast Division due to fewer games played (thanks to those farkers last Monday)

Washington (#3) leads Southeast by 3 pts over Winnipeg (#9, only non-top 8 team still alive in playoff chase).

NY Islanders (#6) are 4 pts ahead of WPG. Ottawa (#7 on games played) and NY Rangers (#8) are 3 pts ahead of WPG.

Schedule-
BOS: @PHI (Tue), TB (Thu), @WAS (Sat), OTT (Sun)
WAS: WPG (Tue), OTT (Thu), BOS (Sat)
MTL: @NJ (Tue), @WPG (Thu), @TOR (Sat)
TOR: @TB (Wed), @FLA (Thu), MTL (Sat)
NYI: @CAR (Tue), @PHI (Thu), @BUF (Fri)
OTT: PIT (Mon), @WAS (Thu), PHI (Sat), @BOS (Sun)
NYR: @FLA (Tue), @CAR (Thu), NJ (Sat)
WPG:  @BUF (Mon), @WAS (Tue), MTL (Thu) (They're done on Thursday???)

Western Conference

Chicago has locked up the #1 seed (and is 5 pts ahead of PIT for the President's Trophy)

Clinched playoff spots- Anaheim, Vancouver and Los Angeles

ANA (#2) leads Pacific by 5 pts over LA (#4). An ANA win tonight or LA loss Tuesday clinches division for ANA.

VAN (#3) leads Northwest by 6 pts over Minnesota (#7). One VAN OT game or one MIN OT loss clinches division for VAN.

San Jose (#5) is 7 points ahead of Detroit (#9 on games played) and Dallas (#10). St. Louis (#6) is 6 pts up on DET/DAL. MIN (#7 on games played) and Columbus (#8) is 3 pts above DET/DAL.

CBJ has only 2 games remaining.

Phoenix (#11) is still eligible, 5 pts behind CBJ

Schedule

ANA: @EDM (Mon), @VAN (Thu), PHX (Sat)

VAN: CHI (Mon), ANA (Thu), @EDM (Sat)

LA: @MIN (Tue), @DET (Wed), SJ (Sat)

SJ: DAL (Tue), @PHX (Wed), @LA (Sat)

STL: COL (Tue), CGY (Thu), CHI (Sat)

MIN: LA (Tue), EDM (Fri), @COL (Sat)

CBJ: @DAL (Thu), NSH (Sat)

You think that's bad?

People are listing ticket to for Leafs games at prices over $5,000 - then again, how much would you pay to see mythical creatures such as dragons, unicorns or a Leafs team that plays beyond the end or the regular season.

I think that Jagr and Soderberg will blend together well...they can make some waves; kinda like one of those popsicle sailboats we made in tech class in elementary school that floated across a kiddie pool and were powered by a fan that sat on the floor next to the kiddie pool.

Needless to say, no waves.
