Mock26: An unidentified friend told CNN that he 'hung out, went to parties, smoked some weed... its not like he's some foreign dude.'

Yeah, because only Americans hang out, go to parties, and smoke weed.

Well, he stopped smoking weed from anywhere to 3 months ago to a year ago depending on reports.  Also, this kid went back to his dorm, hit the gym and rested up in his room the Wednesday AFTER the bombing.

If that isn't the epitome of the 'I don't give a crap' attitude of the American teenager then I don't know what is.

enik: Oh hey thank god for all these immigrants bringing diversity to America.

Yeah, the bad and the good come together. You get the diversity but with it comes with some bad elements.

Immigration requires extensive paperwork regarding no criminal history in their home country but if they came to the US as kids and then become criminals, then what can you say.

Their asylum applications is what said they were refugees.

I'm also not trolling; there's no conflict between being a refugee and finding economic success here or even with having money to start with. And of course most people who get into the US on an asylum visa are pretty darn happy to be there. But facts is facts and these guys were refugees.

Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: The Mexican dude is wearing a cowboy hat, so he can stay. And no one gives a shiat about Asians, they rarely cause any problems. Islamic radicals from Eastern Europe, though, yeah, we could probably do with a few less of those.

Seriously, do you read the entire news or just the parts you like?  Islamic radicals are the flavor of the month (I don't really mean month).  Look up FALN, not that long ago.  Asians don't cause problems?  Man, buy a thicker newspaper and read more than the 1st page.  Pearl Harbor was pretty big I think but I guess since it was a really really long time ago it doesn't count.  We do have an idiot in NK that stirs up some trouble once in a while.

Wow.  You know what, we are coming for your guns because you just don't demonstrate your responsible enough to have so many.  Don't worry, not all of them.  We will let you keep a few.

I think maybe we are confusing refugees with what I remember as a kid as 'boat people' those guys had it rough. Refugees don't have to be poor.  A doctor can be a refugee as well as a slave.

I hear you, especially the 19 year old, he was what, 8 or 9 when he got here?  I think he totally idolized his brother and that was his downfall.  I believe If not for his older brother this kid would probably have turned out to be the type of person farkers in here would throw their daughters at.

I will admit that there is a big part of me that is very happy that they were not born here.  Even being here as a kid and growing up as American as any immigrant I ever new I find it comforting it was not someone born and raised here.  I mean, I can understand a nut job like Mr. Unibomber and the OK city guy but a kid?  A kid who wasn't bat crap crazy to start with.  Yup, I'm happy he was at lest born someplace else.

Can't argue on the genocide part though...considering all the immigrants came from countries where invading each others' borders was a hobby. A bloody hobby. But a hobby none the less.

Meh. Don't listen to him. How Boston held it together and came together for the lockdown was nothing short of amazing. Especially when compared to the clusterfark that was Southern California's version when Donner was running around shooting cops. Boston was a textbook example of doing everything right. WhippingBoy: Im confused about one thing: if these people were essentially refugees, how did a 19 year old kid afford a Mercedes?

It was a BMW, and the answer is, you make the payments, usually by having your priorities screwed up.

Did you see the photos of the apartment the brothers lived in? Trashy, with a piece of plywood serving as a door. Basically a flophouse. Kid decided to spend his money (probably $350-$500/month) on a flashy car rather than a nice place to live. Those payments are certainly affordable by a single guy who doesn't have other bills to speak of. Lots of people do it. I've known many people who complained about how much debt they're in yet drove an expensive car.

Lord Summerisle: The army of police in military uniform putting an entire city under virtual house arrest to chase one scrawny kid was a tad worrying too.

This concerned me at first, but really, it wasn't an order that was enforced. Nobody was arrested for being outside, for example.

Anyway, there are precedents - when a hurricane hits a city, the governor/mayor will give an evacuation order to the citizens. They can choose to go along with it, or not. Many who didn't comply when Katrina hit either died or had to have their asses bailed out by rescue workers.

And it wasn't just to chase a scrawny kid. Think about what happened here - they had killed a police officer, stolen a car, and engaged in a pretty heavy gun battle in a neighborhood which involved the throwing of motherfarking BOMBS, and one of them was still at large in the area. This is obviously a dangerous sort of situation and I think asking residents in the area to stay put wasn't too unreasonable.

As for door to door searches for the guy, and whether police entered homes without consent - I haven't heard enough reports yet about how that went down. In all likelihood the police, when asked, met little resistance from people allowing them to search their homes (because, as we know, nobody was harboring the guy). I don't know if anyone resisted and what would have happened if they did. If someone declined to allow police inside and they barged in anyway, then, well, that's concerning.
