Funny enough, since I'll be moving soon (ugh) I've been putting together a huge list of stuff I either no longer want in my collection, had dupe's of, or unsold stuff from when I closed my distro and will either ebay/discogs/etc.   I came across some Sleep album(s).  No idea how I got them.  Never liked this style of metal.  Heh.

If you're into this style of music (Sleep, Earth, OM, etc.) there is an interesting documentary on the genre called Such Hawks, Such Hounds. The full documentary is up on Youtube:

When my old band went to record out album, we drove about 8 hours to the studio, and listened to that song on repeat the whole time. We were all straight edge at the time and thus completely sober the whole drive, too.

This.  I scratched my head at that one right away.  Got it on 180 gram vinyl.  Tasty.

Another in this realm of super-long stoner grooves, Monster Magnet "25...Tab" is also a good one.

some things that might be pleasing to listen to -

Kingdom - Supreme Blasphemy (death)

Cultes des Ghoules - Henbane (black - full album) This could be the best black metal album released this year

ZOM - Infernal Lord of Deepest Black (black/death)

Let me know when stuff goes up (eip) - I have a feeling there'd be some stuff I'd love to bid on.

Sure thing, it's mostly (70/30) vinyl though, I can't recall if you can play that.

If I listened to a full album of this I would probably kill myself. It makes Type O Negative look like Dream Theater.

Cool.  I can't play vinyl yet... and every time I promise myself to buy a turntable I run out of money before I can. But if something is incredibly tempting I may be tempted, and for any CDs I'm sure I'd be very tempted.

How fitting, I spent 4/20 smoking dope and sleeping, may have something to do with my lack of tolerance anymore. Woke up, wake and baked, fell back asleep trying to read the news. Woke up again, did something for a couple hours, and fell asleep again in the middle of the afternoon. Black Mamba and Duchess Haze, waaay more effective than some OTC garbage...

Another good metal song to celebrate 4/20 would have been "Bury Me In Smoke" by Down.

Um, huh? Matt Pike is still playing in High on Fire.

You're thinking one of the old drummers, Justin Marler.

Drop out of life with bong in hand.

Error on my part...Marler did play guitar on Vol 1.

Thinking Hakius.

-2 stoner rock points for me.  Geezer Butler will not be pleased.

Take a listen to Kalas if you haven't checked them out yet.  Pike only sings on the album, but it's riff heavy.

I will check that out; recently got the new soundgarden and clutch albums; clutch still kicks ass and the soundgarden CD is ok for them having taken a 15 year hiatus.

CSB/Name drop time:

I met Matt Pike in a junior college art class back in like 1991. Saw a dude with dreadlocks and Asbestos Death patch on his vest. He told me they just changed their name to Sleep and had a new album. I gave him a ride home and he gave me Volume 1 on cassette. I was mostly into punk at the time so he was the one that told me to check out Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus and Motorhead. He bought me a Slurpee with his first check from the record company. It was for like $10. Then, we went to his friend's house and he bought like $7 worth of weed.

Yeah, I'm super open-minded, but got rid of my Dopesmoker a while ago.  Kind of hit and miss with High on Fire, too.

/much respect though

I tried listening to the whole thing last summer, in one sitting. I lasted about 34 minutes. Interesting, epic song, but it gave me a headache after awhile.

And, I really don't think it needed lyrics. The lyrics just look and sound super corny. It's about weed. We get it. Stop beating the hemp-horse.
