While I'm afraid he might be screwed over, I like the lack of guaranteed money. Far too many players have one or two great seasons, get their payday and loaf through the remainder of their years. Or at least until its time to re-up the contract.

/I would have liked to have seen at least a nominal amount of guaranteed money to kick in at the end of the season, just to ensure that he won't be dropped after the first year just because of an injury. Or if they do drop him, he at least gets some compensation.

While it remains to be seen how he'll come back from the ACL, a trade involving a player who is by and large the best CB in the league is hardly irrelevant (and I don't give two shiats about either the Jets or the Bucs).

NO guaranteed money? These agents were the geniuses that had Tannenbaum pulling out his hair? I get that he's basically guaranteed this year and next (no way they release him after giving up a 1st this year), but why not make the first 2 guaranteed in the contract to save yourself some face? Good job by the Bucs' front office.

Now that the dust is settled and the team can move on, I think it's safe to say that Tanny goes down as the worst planning GM ever. Absolutely no foresight with the money he was throwing around. Giving Holmes way too much, along with signing Sanchez to that insane guaranteed contract pretty much nailed the coffin shut on being able to re-sign Revis. Today has just been a long time coming. Sad to see him go, but it was inevitable.

Fark needs a new admin for the Sports tab, I think the final straw was that there was no Kobe thread.  From late Nascar/Indy/F1 race threads to empty weekly Bundesliga threads there needs to be a rethink about the whole ethos.

It was better when SportsByBrooks and their ilk were getting massive amounts of greenlights because at least there were threads.

i think last year there was a "today's awsome highlight from NBA Championship Game 2" thread WHEN GAME 5 OR 6  WAS TIPPING OFF.  yeah, thanks for that highlight from 4 days ago, which we all saw on Deadspin etc.

Way to be timely, folks!

The admins would help, but they're stuck on Revis Island.

As a fan of a competing AFC team, it's a win-win. Revis is out of the conference, and the Jets have no clue what to do with draft picks.

Once Revis is out of NJ, He won't be getting the Jordan-esque play calling from the refs anymore

If Sanchez is the starter for the Jets I can't wait to see how fast he gets benched once he starts farking up and losing games.

And though there should be an NBA thread for the playoffs, to be truthfull the number of posts in a thread for basketball is tiny compared to playoffs threads for other sports. If you went by the number of posts in one you'd think the NBA wasn't a popular sport.

Still, it's not like greenlighting a veritable plethora of one NBA Playoff thread every day or two would push other Sports threads down the queue. If we got 20 people commenting in it, it would be as popular as this thread.

If the Bucs were going to give him the money that nobody else was going to give him, and they're not going anywhere this year (and they're not), why not wait until next year when they won't have to give up three picks?

The Bucs are the new Redskins.  The Jets had ZERO leverage on this trade, and the Bucs still managed to get bent over and sodomized.

Damn, where the hell was I on the Monta Ellis to the Bucks trade? Seriously was completely under my radar for some reason. I had to look it up, and sure enough:

Monta Ellis - 1436 FGA
Brandon Jennings - 1247 FGA
Ersan Ilvasova - 803 FGA

That's just hilarious to see in print. Monta and Brandon shooting a crisp .416 and .399 respectively too, gotta love that.

How did the Bucs come out as the losers in this trade?

Revis has 0 guaranteed dollars, locked up for 6 years, they can release him at the start of any season with 0 salary cap hit, and they sured up their Pass Defense (Which when you look up the statistics for last season it just shows a stick figure guy butt farking a skunk with an arrow pointing to the little squiggly smell lines) with the biggest FA cornerback in the league.

Jets got 2 picks they're going to end up pissing away anyways.

Sorry, Bucs got the much better end of this deal.

When a set of playoffs includes half the teams in the league, and some subset of those teams are roughly at .500 or below, they don't deserve a thread. 9 out of 16 teams in the playoffs didn't even crack .600 win percentage. Yeah, that's the cream-of-the-crop right there.

It's been outlawed due to domestic terrorism laws.  Any threadjackers are subject to indefinite detention by 0bummer, denial of Miranda protections, revocation of citizenship regardless of nationality, a secret military show trial and a cell at Guantanamo Bay until Cuba sinks.  Unless they shoot you first. They'll probably just shoot you though.

A top 15 pick for a guy coming off knee surgery that used to be good? When the Jets were desperate to deal him? And he probably was going to be available as a FA next year?

Uh wow, shrewd negotiating there Tampa Bay. I mean I could see it if maybe you were just a CB away from a Super Bowl but Tampa probably isn't better than 3rd in their own division.

I wouldn't say they came away a loser. But pay $16M/year most likely for 2  years, at least is a lot. Plus, why would the Jets care about not guaranteed. If the Bucs have to cut him after one or two years that the Jets obviously got a lot more out of the deal. I suspect there will be a new contract next season or in 2015. But I do think he'll get $32M for the next 2 seasons.

There may not be any guaranteed money, but there's no way they're cutting/releasing him in the first two years given the draft picks they gave up.

Tampa was 7-9 with 1 blowout loss aginst NO, including having the Giants on the ropes for most of the game and beating the "Omg already SB Champions" 13-3 Falcons, in Atlanta.  Not to mention Every team not named Atlanta finished 7-9 in the NFC South last year.

TB's rush defense was first in the league, and their pass defense was 32nd.  When TB makes the playoffs for the next few years, everyone will be going "Huh.  Guess they were just a good CB away from the playoffs."

Well, to be fair, with their secondary so terrible last year there was no point in bothering with the run (they saw the 3rd fewest rushing attempts).

I do think this helps push them to the level of a wild-card team. Just looking at last year, they would have beaten the Giants & Eagles with a halfway-functional secondary and probably would have won at least one of the home games vs. the Saints, Redskins, or Falcons. That's 10 wins and a tie for a wild-card spot.

Revis for a first round pick is stupid.   The guy is in the final year of his contract anyways so you have to pay him again next season.  I'd rather take the best rookie corner with my 13th pick and pay him rookie pay for 3 years.

I'm pretty sure he is starting the first year of a 6 year deal, so I don't really see that as an issue.

Unless you are talking about this from the JETS perspective.  They would have had to pay him.  But then we would have to assume the JETS actually do any sort of thinking at all when it comes to trades.

/And then Tebow.
