Seriously. I have mostly followed the news through Fark so I haven't exactly run across it myself...

Would I be a terrible person if I admitted that I'm already bored with hearing about the marathon bombing?
I don't need to know the life story of every person who was there that day.

No, you're a terrible person for completely unrelated reasons.

But I agree with you on the "crap, we need something else to keep the story fresh, what else do you have for me?" reporting

The first thing I thought of when I saw that clip was the skier from the old Wide World of Sports opening who fell off the ramp.

Well, to be fair, we've all seen the photo exactly 7 more times than we've seen that one picture of the tranny installing a tranny that we all like so much. You known the picture, right guys?

I knew when I saw the 2 pics of the guy that one of those would be 'the' pic for the whole tragedy, and they chose the better of the two pics. SI's cover looks Really good.

Anyway, I think that they figured we'd all seen the pic already. Either that, or the photog is charging a ridiculous amount for reprint rights. Other possibility is that SI now owns the reprint rights.

The dude's race results on Athlinks are very impressive. Runs sub 4 hour marathons, sub 1:45 half marathons, and at age 77, ran a 21:20 5K. He's badass.

I laughed everytime they should the clip of him falling.
Sorry.
Second is runners glancing at the bomb blast then stopping their watches to get their time.

2013-04-21 11:36:59 AM
He isn't planning to run the marathon next year, but not because of anything to do with the bombings.
It's because in 2014, he'll be 79, and fears he'll be beaten by some 75-year-old upstart.
But in 2015, when he's 80, he'll be running in the 80-plus group.
"I'll be the youngest one, and have a better chance," says Iffrig.

I like this guy.  When the video first started circulating, some people thought he got struck in the legs with shrapnel/debris, but I thought he just stumbled due to the blast.  I'm glad he's okay.

No, you're not.  Media is blatantly trying to milk the shiat out of this.  It's not every day you can exploit America's fetish for overreacting to national tragedy to sell boring stories.

or make it seem like it is the most horrible thing that could ever happen. when there are other events that occur where there is a lot more people killed/injured then this. hell the waco explosion caused more damage then those bombers yet we still hear more about the marathon bombing...

To be fair I think the bombing itself and the subsequent manhunt was the most exciting thing to happen in the US since law enforcement shat all over half of California looking for Dorner.

An accidental explosion (even one caused by negligence) isn't going to garner as much attention no matter how many people die as would a story about some guys intentionally blowing up other people for reasons no one is entirely clear on, then putting on a very good impression of GTA V: Real Life Edition and you have to realize that.

Everything is grossly distorted by the 24-hour news frenzies but "human interest" stories about the people involved in major events are perfectly natural and I'm totally cool with it. It's the nannering speculation and empty-headed babble that fills that spaces between that bother me.

What else is out there that's even remotely as interesting?  Shall we get back to reading articles about how Democrats and/or Republicans are terrible?  How about schools getting shot up or bombed?  Maybe some molestation would be more agreeable with you?  These feel good puff pieces are just about the only thing in the news that doesn't make all of mankind look a cancer on Earth.

Hey, you beat me to it!!  When you're 78 and running in Marathons, mowing your lawn is a walk in the park.  This was one of the first images I saw after the bombings on CNN.  He's fine and mowing his lawn and others are dead or maimed.

After he falls (meaning after the 1st bomb went off) a woman raises her arms in victory as she crosses the finish line, only then looking back.  It looks like she's cheering the explosion.  There are too many videos now and I can't find it, but it was the first one I saw on the internet.  She's in red toward the bottom of the screen.
