Surprised mom didn't crash the car.

2013-04-21 12:23:43 AM
I will say, the shiat they knock you out with is freakin' AWESOME. I remember sitting in the "recovery" room after I got mine yanked, just sitting there, when all of a sudden tears just start pouring down my face.

My mom: Does it hurt?
Me: Noooo....
Mom: Then why are you crying?
Me: I dunno.....

(Seriously, I felt no pain but was soooo freakin' high.)

I got very, very, very frisky and potty-mouthed after I had my gallbladder out.  I was telling the surgeon how hot I thought he was and exactly what I wanted to do with him.  Good times!

I had mine out in an emergency procedure late at night by a nice man who talked all about how dentistry was his second career later in life. His diploma from teeth school was dated 1955. His anesthesia was of the same vintage.

I was hoping there would be a crash. This mom is so interested in being a youtube sensation that she's risking everyone's lives.

I had mine out in high school, in the recovery room, still groggy and waking up, my mother says, "It's like being drunk."

My 16 year old self replied, "No it isn't"

Over here they just jab you with needles and put a knee on your chest.

No kidding, had a bruise for 2 weks

What did those kids have done that required they be drugged up like that?

I had two root canals in the last couple of years and I never had more than copious amounts of local anaesthetic.

Why are people still being drugged up like this for dentistry?

Had mine out in the military.  Same thing except I received a wimp chit for a week.

That's pretty much how it's done in boot camp.  A local, some dental vise grips, some leverage, a lot of cracking noises, then back to training about a day later.  Good times.

Mine were removed about 4 years ago. Don't know what they used to put me under, but it seems like it was tilted heavier to the amnesia and less to the druggy knock-out.  My memory of the whole thing was two breaths through the mask, then I was walking down a hall toward my wife and somebody was talking to me.  I was obviously conscious at the start of that walk, I just didn't remember anything that was happening until a fog lifted while walking down that hall.  When I reached my wife, I may have been a bit groggy, but after a few seconds of mild confusion, I was having a normal conversation with her.

I don't recall feeling spaced out at all.

This vid was ok. NOTHING beats the one of the girl apologizing to her teeth. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time or as much since.

"They were only trying to help me chew... And I said, 'NO'! Get out of my mouth!" lmao

This. I have to have 2 of my wisdom teeth pulled soon. My dentist told me they would use a little local anesthesia then homeward bound.

I've had both a root canal and my wisdom teeth removed.  The root canal was a walk in the park compared to the wisdom tooth extraction.  Of course mine were full impacted (growing sideways basically) and partially errupted, which lead to the occassional infection.  They knocked me out with some sort of IV drip, twilight drug.  I was still 'awake', but was not supposed to able to remember anything.  I do recall waking momentarily somewhere in the procedure.  There was two or three folks around my, the doc had his hand in my mouth and I could hear what I swore was a dremel with a cut off wheel. They all froze and asked if I was okay.  I mumbled something and promptly feel back into oblivion.  Asking about this during my checkup, they told me at that point one of the teeth was problematic and they had to cut it into 3 or 4 pieces to extract it fully.

The best part is that after I healed up and the 15 years or so following, I have had only one or two sinus infections.  A few years prior to that, seems like I was constantly having them.  If I had not switched dentists, I may have never known that my teeth were so jacked.

2013-04-21 10:19:08 AM
I was put under general when all four of my wisdom teeth were pulled.  I vaguely remember feeling tugging and hearing crunching noises despite being 'out'.  Came out of it in a nice dark room, and was taken home.  No real after effects.

Actually he hasn't. He has never had any strange reactions to the pain meds at the dentist and has had alot of work done. He had no pain afterwards either and refused his percocets, which I promptly took off his hands. I had some "pain".

Got my wisdom teeth pulled when I was a teenager. Got put under, and remember absolutely nothing until I snapped back to reality on my couch several hours later. I must have been "awake" in some sense, because I made it home and my mother was neither large enough or strong enough to manhandle me around.

Different strokes for different folks man. I just had all 4 wisdom teeth out a few months ago, was put under with the sleepy time IV drip. My tops were erupted and did not require sedation, they can be pulled normally without issue. But the bottoms were partially impacted. A partial or full impaction can require cutting the gums and/or impacted teeth in order to remove them. While a local will prevent you from feeling anything, you can still HEAR it and it can cause patients to freak the fark out.

/Vaguely remember bits and pieces of the procedure, but it was super easy.
//No complications and I was back to solids within 2 weeks.

YodaBlues: sleepy time IV drip

When I had mine removed the oral surgeon used some kind of Fentanyl cocktail. There were other components, but I didn't recognize the names and I don't remember them.

'Waking up' was odd, in that I must have been conscious -- after a fashion -- but the memory of what happened as it wore off was sporadic. In the waiting room one moment. Halfway home another moment.

2013-04-21 01:12:18 PM
I had mine removed at 17. I remember waking up in the chair afterwards and overhearing a conversation between my mother and the dentist, but I can't recall what was said, even though I replied to them. I'm pretty sure I wasn't as out of it as these videos show. I walked to the car, mom drove home, and I went to sleep for the rest of the day.

2013-04-21 01:24:03 PM
And this, kiddos, is why doctors, nurses, and assistants are careful to not be the only person in the room with you while recovering from IV sedation.

2013-04-21 01:28:30 PM
I have to get one or more of mine removed before this fall when I quit my job and go back to school. I heard that after 24, they always use full anesthesia to put you under instead of just local anesthesia + laughing gas, even if they're not acting up.

Right now, it comes and goes. Two months ago I had a two-week spell where they were noticeably doing something to my jaw. Then it went away for a month. Then, I got the flu and it was hell on earth. Now it's back to barely noticeable.

Strangely enough, my insurance will cover the procedure, but not the $50 special x-ray needed before the procedure.

Had my wisdom teeth pulled about a decade ago. They were only supposed to pull 2, but they pulled 4. When my friend who was there to drive me home told me about it, I apparently said, "Yeah, but they added 3 inches to my penis, so it's okay." I had no recollection of saying this, but according to my friend the old women in the waiting room were quite scandalized.

2013-04-21 01:43:42 PM
Had some work done on my mouth a few years ago, my mom drove me in and picked me up. Apparently she called my dad to tell him I was done and ok. She put me on the phone with him and I told him I was drunk. Don't remember it. I do remember, walking into the house and getting a towel to sleep better cause I knew I was bleeding XD.

I guess some of the drugging could be needed for patients that get really anxious at the dentist. I know a lot of people that still can't shake their childhood fear of a dentist visit  even though they are in their mid thirties now.

I was never afraid of a Dentist vist even as a little kid, but then again the most work I ever got done was a few filled cavities (which later fell out when my adult teeth grew in).

Now whenever I go a new Dentist the technicians sometimes have to call the doctor in to do the x-rays because they didn't know how to frame it for someone who has all of his teeth, I guess having 28 teeth is far more common now than 32.

Doesn't work as well if your dentist is a tiny asian woman.

It would've been easier to pull the legendary sword from stone.  At one point I'm pretty she would've gladly put me on the floor so that she could brace her foot on my forehead if she thought she could get away with it without getting in trouble.
By the end of the 5 hour ordeal to remove 2 teeth, my dentist looked like she had slain a dragon or gone a few rounds in a boxing ring.

Years ago. 5 extractions. 4 of them wisdom teeth. Local, nitrous and general. Wife had to run into pharmacy to get pain meds, I kept insisting that I was ok as I was leaning out of the passenger seat, seat belt still on, bleeding all over myself and the parking lot because I had opened the door and was moaning with gauze on my mouth. At least that is what she says--my memory is kinda hazy about it. Vicodin was nice.

Farking criminal dentist.  What justifies having the wisdom teeth of both children pulled at the same time?  Really, a proper dentist evaluates each patient separately and makes a determination only after that.  There is no way they both needed it at that time.

/has all wisdom teeth in and I'm 45.. well 3 of them.. 1 never formed.

To be fair, the link location was around Oklahoma and Kansas according to the link, and they were clearly in BFE. I if had driven that highway enough I would have done the same, there were probably no other cars and they were going in a straight line. Better to do so there than in the middle of a residential zone.

When it comes to wisdom teeth, general anesthetic is for the benefit of the dentist, not the patient.  It makes it easier for them to pry your teeth out of your head if you are not squirming under the local.

I'd believe that. I had a broken molar yanked on Tuesday under local and though there was no pain whatsoever I couldn't help but move my head around in response to the dentist going to work inside my jaw. The tooth had a nasty snarled root too so I'm sure that didn't make his job any easier.

Had 2 pulled by a Navy dentist using only a local in 72. Went back to work when he was done.  My lawn, bla, bla bla.
