I'm surprised that no matter how bat people think the Today Show is, that it's being beaten in the ratings by Good Morning America. That show is horrible because the only stories they lead with each morning are negative things. It's depressing watching that show's opening plus it throws me watching Stephanopolous as a newscaster of doom and gloom.

Heh. Lauer isn't just a douche, he's so invested in the program they couldn't sever ties if the network wanted. If the bullying that's written in the book is true I hope those people never get another job. And what is the shame is a lot of those bullies are behind the scenes if the article and book is true. It would be a shame if their brakes quit working or their water heater got up to 300 degrees or stepped on a thorn or something.

Matt Lauer and Today Show producers launched "Operation Bambi" in 2011, which had one goal: the complete and utter destruction of Ann Curry

Curry did a pretty good job of doing that herself. She could barely read the teleprompter, and that may have been her biggest strength on the show.

HuffPo sure did a nice job of ignoring Curry's flaws that the NYT column listed.

I wonder if this book will cover Matt's philandering.  A little googling turns up the following rumors:

Natalie Morales - including speculation that Matt's the father of one of her kids.
Jenna Wolfe - yes, I know she's gay, keep in mind they're rumors, though persistent.
Amy Robach - she expected to use her connection with Matt to step up when Curry got fired, and was pissed when it didn't happen, and she jumped to another network.

And others.

Absolutely. I've been following them since the change and I really like the fact they actually have news and what a concept. I wish other stations would adopt that posture. I thought John Miller might be a token "expert" but his utterly zero nonsense style appeals to me. I've always liked Charlie, even though he looks like he's been on a 3 day bender every time he's in front of the camera he too is is no nonsense.

Sometimes I don't feel like combing news sites and I just want to sit and watch, well, news and CBS finally fills that bill. Gayle's ok, she's the comic relief I guess but she's tolerable.

Yes they do, and that's the point.  If you read the NYT article, they talk about how with prime time shows streamed on the net and network news decimated by Twitter, morning shows are one of the few broadcasts (outside of sports) that people watch live in large numbers.  The morning shows are increasingly used to promote other parts of the network like news and prime time.  it's a very cut thought business and it was a huge deal when Today's streak of being the #1 morning show came to an end.

I watch the Today Show on most days.   My attention ebbs and flows as their content changes and as my morning routine moves along.

GMA is too much like some 80's era morning radio show with a TV feed.  Cartoony graphics and banter about every story.  CBS's people are just utterly unlikable.
