(Huffington Post)   Turns out, there was a dark conspiracy at work: Matt Lauer and Today Show producers launched "Operation Bambi" in 2011, which had one goal: the complete and utter destruction of Ann Curry   (huffingtonpost.com) divider line 78

Mentat: John Buck 41: I don't mean to be 'that guy' but does anyone really watch morning network television news?

Yes they do, and that's the point.  If you read the NYT article, they talk about how with prime time shows streamed on the net and network news decimated by Twitter, morning shows are one of the few broadcasts (outside of sports) that people watch live in large numbers.  The morning shows are increasingly used to promote other parts of the network like news and prime time.  it's a very cut thought business and it was a huge deal when Today's streak of being the #1 morning show came to an end.

Huh.

propasaurus: LoneWolf343: I don't even know who these people are.

Why, I bet you don't even own a TV.

I do, but I never turn it on.

Not bragging about it, either. I just forget about the stuff that I even want to watch.

Sock Ruh Tease: Lionel Mandrake: What was (or was supposed to be) so bad about her?

I think they all hated her because they thought she improved the show with her presence better than any of them could.

Watching Matt Lauer try to run a disinterested, unprepared interview is just painful.  Curry should have replaced him as morning anchor, no question.

John Buck 41: I don't mean to be 'that guy' but does anyone really watch morning network television news? Or is it just, at best, background while you're making/drinking coffee, throwing breakfast together, showering, getting ready for work...or catching up on Fark?

I watch Morning Joe pretty regularly. A morning show dedicated to political process stories!

Lionel Mandrake: What was (or was supposed to be) so bad about her?

After she left, one of the big wigs flat-out said that she was good at hard news, but not so much at celebrity gossip stories and cooking segments.

Glad there's another Morning Joe viewer here!  Solid news reporting, with a good dash of humor and sports.

They're also apparently the cheapest to produce, something akin to a loss leader for the networks or something.

She was one of those people that would take other people's lunches and drinks out of the office refrigerator, even though they were clearly marked and there was a sign on the fridge and everything.

She would leave little post it notes all over your desk, with little doodles on them.

She'd try to flush tampons down the toilet.

She would make popcorn in the microwave and burn it horribly.

She would reheat fish in the microwave and stink up the whole floor.

Never made the next pot of coffee when she took the last cup

Mentat: Why are women not allowed to be ambitious?

Because they want to be able to take months off from the job for spawning and then snivel how their career track is not the same as the men who had to pick up the slack and did not leave their employer hanging.

DeaH: Meh, if I watch tv in the morning, it's either the previous night's Daily Show or Looney Tunes.

Man, I wish they played Looney Tunes in the morning here. Or any old cartoons. Felix, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Wacky Races, Jetsons, anything...

Wow, surprised nobody has crapped the thread with the unfunny "heeling it down the drain" reference yet.

Ann's better off without the Today show anyway.  She's great on Dateline and other such shows.

Lauer's enough of a dbag that it makes me miss the oh-so-cheerful Bryant G(r)umbel

How I hate them, but hen again there is not a morning TV "News" show that I like. Can't we just have some old guy read the news off a teleprompter and have a couple of good looking girls do the weather and sports.?

RyansPrivates: Break the cycle people: watch CBS this morning.  Two reasons:

-Charlie Rose
-John Miller

In short: news for adults, especially in the first hour.

/Ignore Gayle King in the second hour and it still is better than all the other morning shows.

Gayle King isn't the one that bothers me. It's the other cohost, I cannot recall her name. She asks some of the most goddamn INANE questions.

I don't like Matt Lauer, but he could go out and beat up little kids and rape old ladies, or vice-versa, and he wouldn't reach the level of dislike I have for those three assholes.
