And Cracked has clearly ripped off some website who doesn't stretch an eight item list into three pages

2013-04-20 06:15:03 PM
it's more like Dead Like Me + Men in Black + Brimstone

2013-04-20 06:20:05 PM
I'm just happy to see James Hong still working. The guy is a national treasure.

2013-04-20 06:24:36 PM
I actually said the same exact thing when  buddy of mine linked the R.I.P.D trailer on Facebook. That said I'd watch it, I like Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges.

2013-04-20 06:30:11 PM
Because Men In Black is such an original concept.

2013-04-20 06:31:31 PM
Know how I know Subby isn't talking about the comic?
Cause I read both. Marvel's MIB sucked.

2013-04-20 06:33:36 PM
Yup, still as much of a rip off of Men in Black when the movie trailer was posted here.
http://www.fark.com/comments/7706682/Jeff-Bridges-as-Tommy-Lee-Jones -R yan-Reynolds-as-Will-Smith-In-No-its-not-Men-In-Black-Its-RIPD
So... congrats to the original subby for being a step ahead of Cracked.
Or, shame on Cracked for stealing shiat from subby, whichever.

The guy from that one Seinfeld episode? I coulda sworn he died. Who am I confusing him with?

The guy from Seinfeld? That's David Lo Pan you're talking about! You should go to the Hell of Eternal Reruns for that.

Not sure who you are confusing him with but James Hong is 84 and still kicking

And if anybody knows about rip-offs its Cracked since they've been ripping-off MAD Magazine since the 50's

TappingTheVein: it's more like Dead Like Me + Men in Black + Brimstone

with hints of Supernatural. I'm good with it. Like I said the other day I prefer when they go this way and rework a good film with different details (IE Fast and Furious is just Point Break reworked with Street Racing Vs Surfing) rather than a remake/reboot. make the dialogue good and keep the action flowing and I'll love it.

2013-04-20 07:49:43 PM
It's a throwaway summer movie.  Whatever.  I'm more bothered by that shiatty title than anything brought up in TFA.

2013-04-20 07:51:49 PM
...and it's baed on a comic book,

images.darkhorse.com

...so blame Dark Horse, not Hollywood this time.

Sure, they picked a license that rips off MIB, but the comic did it first, something comics have been doing far longer than Hollywood.

It's got Jeff Bridges, and that means I'm there. Okay, the second Tron wasn't all that, but the presence of Jeff Bridges has been an overall great indicator whether I'll enjoy a movie.

Saw the trailer for this attached to Oblivion, which I went to see because, fark it, I wanted to go see a movie and get at least moderately entertained.  RIPD also looks solidly moderately entertaining.

2013-04-20 08:24:25 PM
I'd probably prefer to see this over MIB anyway.  I prefer Ryan Reynolds riffing to Will Smith riffing.  Perhaps we'll get less of the 'I'm from the street but still mellow enough that white people don't find me offensive" vibe.

And come on... Jeff Bridges... The Dude.  Although I have to ask:  They said he was playing Rooster again, to imply that he'd played the type in a movie other than True Grit - did I miss one?

Saw the trailer for the first time yesterday and came to exact same conclusion.
I'll still watch it though, and probably like it quite a bit.

Yeah I don't think I'd see RIPD in the theater but I think I'd be willing see it at some point.   Now this which was also attached to Oblivion really looks like something I'd like to avoid.

Oblivion was actually better than I thought it would be, although I still feel ripped off for paying $9.75 to see it...

/ will see RIPD eventually, probably at the budget theater 40 miles south of me...

Anyone who's read the Book of the SubGenius (published 30 years ago) knows the real MIBs are aliens themselves, helping to control world government by whispering into the ears of leaders.

Morgan Freeman should be ashamed of himself if he cashes the check they gave him to show up. Also, the robots had an order of magnitude more charisma and acting ability than the brunette chick. Otherwise, it was pretty good.

He's basically a half-shave away from Cogburn in this film. He's also obviously enjoying chewing scenery and if everyone working on the film hams it up half as much as he is could be a great movie.

Or utterly terrible. Hard to say.

Diablo 3 was not a good game, but I sincerely did enjoy James Hong as Covetous Shen.

Nope. They tried a couple of books after that. Really bad and the art sucked.

Yeah. I'm sure he's real broken up about it.
"Hey, we'll pay you a lot of money to be 5 minutes on screen in a big budget sci-fi movie. And don't worry about stretching your acting abilities. You'll still be the wise old man who explains everything and is the smartest man in the room."
"Cool."
