Well I was sitting, waiting, wishing
You believed in superstitions
Then maybe you'd see the signs

The Lord knows that this world is cruel
I ain't the Lord, I'm just a fool
And in love with somebody don't make them love you

Must I always be waiting, waiting on you
Must I always be playing, playing your fool

Heck, even I've shaken Tommy LaSorda's hand, at a Great Falls Dodgers game back in 1999ish. Sucks to get burned like that.

I have as well when I was a child and visiting Dodgertown.  30 years later we take my 4 year old nephew to a spring training game and there is Tommy signing autographs. We come up to him and ask him to sign a ball but my nephew refused to give it up to the point of crying.  I guess he thought Tommy was going to keep it.  Tommy just laughed and patted him on the head and we moved on.  Tommy was always good to the fans from what I saw of him at Dodgertown.  Was really sad to see it close. Nice...Tommy signed a ball for me as well. He seemed a bit preoccupied but was gracious. Guess that's all you can ask from celebrities with many demands on their time.

Tommy Lasorda will, most likely, be buried with a Dodgers jersey. The man is the personification of the Dodgers post-Jackie Robinson and post-West Coast move. Of course Tommy ignored him, you don't talk to the opposition... until after you've beaten them.

2013-04-20 06:22:27 PM
Well, that is a pretty dickish move.

He got traded LA, it's not like he threw tantrum to be traded to a contender.

I still get pissed when Blake "avoid contact at all costs" Wheeler plays like Can Neely in his prime against the Bruins after he got traded to ATL/Jets.

The 85-year old Lasorda later explained to FS West's Patrick O'Neal, "You do not talk to the opposition."

Seeing as how Lasorda was a 'non-combatant' in this hockey game one has to wonder if he wasn't just being a dick.

Walter Alston would've been gracious but then, Tommy was no Walt Alston, was he.

So what's with the continued hostility? Guy decides to spend 2 years at Michigan after committing to them, and Canes decide that's reason enough to include him in a salary dump that netted them Gleason who, while not flashy, is a warrior that once fought Chara to defend a teammate in a game that was a complete loss.

He made it clear that he thought he was too special to play for a smaller market team. We had to deal him because never intended to play for the organization. Adding Gleason to the team worked in our favor, he's a decent stay at home defender, but the Canes wasted a high draft pick on stud D-Man who decided he had other plans. We shouldn't have been put in that position in the first place. The day he was sent to Columbus I giggled my M--Fin ass off.

I really don't buy this story and I've heard it all before. Guy wanted to spend a couple years for the college team he grew up rooting for (and went back there in the summer for classes during his tenure with the Kings). If the Canes scouting department didn't do their due diligence and realize that he was going to play at least some college hockey before jumping to the pros then that's on them. And it's not like they're unique in spending a top 5 pick on a d-man that they'll never see play in their uniform.

There's just no evidence outside of the ranting of Carolina fans to indicate he was ever a prima donna. Never stories about him being out partying that I can remember. Guy didn't even use an agent when negotiating his last contract with the Kings. And honestly, other than missing out on a Stanley Cup run (assuming it still happens without him being traded) he's probably happy being back in that area, other than it being Buckeye territory.

Now that it looks like my Jets are done, I'm cheering for the BlueJackets. They have had pretty decent fan support considering how bad they have been for so long. Had the team been located in a warmer climate, (other than phoenix, because someone has to have really bad pictures of Bettman for him to  keep the team there for so long.) they probably would have already been relocated.

Go hummers!
