Excellent! He is definitely one of the main faces of this tragedy and it seems like it will be a long slog to get him back to any semblance of normalcy. His medical and rehabilitation bills are probably going to cost quite a bit.

I've been thinking about that photo for the past few days.  Heartbreaking--I can't imagine what it would be like to just be hanging out watching your girlfriend racing and the next thing you know is you're wondering why you're on the ground and you can't stand up anymore.

2013-04-20 10:45:58 AM
things like this is sort of the exact reason why we should have socialized medicine.

I've seen this pic, and it was terrible and has been seared into my brain. The image of him holding onto his thighs and obviously in shock, and his legs blown off, bloody rags, was something ill never forget. I hope that his gf remains with him, and gives him the support he needs.

A guy gets his legs blown off in a cowardly terrorist attack... and has to worry about paying the medical bills.

Yep. Oh you got blown up by a bomb? Welcome to bankruptcy too!

This guy may also have provided a description of a bomber to the FBI, which would have speeded up the image search tremendously:

The internet is awesome at raising money and watching porn.

I'm going to pay forward the TF someone gave me the other night for this, but I have an honest question - would putting it in the name of my business make me look like a tool? I wouldn't be doing it for the tax write off or anything, it's more for accounting purposes and to show that a business (owner) cares...

It's partisan to point out how disgusting it is that victims of tragedy have to fund raise or go bankrupt?

/I fully support giving money.

How do we know this is legit?  Couldn't some random person just set up a GoFundMe site and claim it was for Bauman?

I really hate to ask/wonder what insurance he had and if they would cover this and if all this is really necessary?  Probably is at least partly so just an estimate.

I'm guessing prosthetic companies might approach them. There are some really cool development of prosthetic limbs right now, and then there's the Blade Runners.

You do research and make sure it's set up by a trustworthy source...usually family/close friends.

He had no insurance, he was working up in a NH Costco and was planning on going back to college.

The fact that he's uninsured is why the fundraiser was started.

Govt healthcare = Waste. Inefficiency. Overspending. Ineffective.

One pair of Dr Scholls-like Medicaid-purchased shoes for my dad: $450. Must be the golden fleeced linings. Thank goodness they also provided a $800 mil-spec-shoe horn.
