He's 76. Looks healthy enough to make it to 96. That's 20 more years. 365 days in a year. 15 times a day someone shows me one of his Facebook posts. I'll only be bothered 109,500 times.

Whatever he's a nice guy.

You know at some point some asshole is going to come in here and bash the guy and go all "Hasn't done anything relevant since Trek and all he does is repost other's shiat on facebook. "

Personally I like the guy, he seems pretty down to Earth and genuinely enjoys his fans. I got to meet him once when he came to the base I was stationed at to give a speech for Asian heritage month.

The problem with George Takei is that his acting skill has *significantly* degraded over time.
In the original series and the movies, he came across as a competent if unremarkable actor.

I saw him in a TV show a few years ago, and his acting was abysmal.

At the VW dealer where I work, co-worker of mine suggested we have a Birthday Sale, discounting all Black cars with tan interiors. Free tattoos for the kids !

-10 points for use incorrect over-use of hero tag.

Coming out of the closet at this stage of his career didn't involve much personal risk or sacrifice if anything his timing enables him to cash in on the gay fad.

The ability of two males who like dick to be able to marry each other is hardly the most pressing issue of our time. Let me know when he does something about the way single non-breeders are treated.

I think the complete lack of story or acting overcame the sparkly bits.

It's the same problem Betty White has, and Henry Winkler had prior to Arrested Development.  You develop a persona, and you end up playing a caricature of yourself.

Walter Koenig was incredibly smart to take the role of Bester.  It was a complete 180 from Checkov.

You need to go watch the old Mary Tyler Moore show. Sue Ann Niven was the biggest biatch on the show.

I gotta say, as horrifying a part of history as the interning the Japanese was, how bad could it have been compared to a nazi internment camp? It seems a little too much to say he "survived" it as if there was a distinct possibility of death on a regular basis. If I am wrong please let me know

Like Betty White - he's manage to reinvent himself and stay relevant.  That alone should be deserving of respect while a lot of actors his age can barely spell facebook.

This makes him a survivor not a hero and despite it being admittedly wrong and the rough conditions and except the higher than average suicide rate survival was not the hardest thing-Link

But maybe the internment camp turned him gay-either way he is not a "hero".

The social security office I go to, aptly enough to help my mother with her stuff, plays that and a few other videos based on the same premise constantly in the waiting room.    Even with the TV that plays it muted with subtitles, I could still hear Takei saying his lines.

/Hate going there
//Last time I went there, I spent six hours total between waiting and talking to them.
///They still didn't input the information correctly.
