Now we know why the second suspect was acting pointlessly quirky and faux geeky.

You do realize they use special keyboards that just have keys that are mapped to IPA standard characters, which in turn is fed into a computer that translates it into English right? Sometimes the computer gets it wrong.

What's the point of that? Why not just type in the english to start with?

For live broadcasts?

Lolz. How would somebody "realize" such a thing without being told directly? And wtf is an IPA standard character? And translated into English from what language?

International Phonetic Alphabet. It's an alphabet with a character assigned to every sound your mouth can make.

Thanks for the info but that's entirely not my point, I was commenting on you going full douchebag right out of the gate with the condescending "You do realize..." and then naming an industry specific method and technology that only people in the industry would know.

IPA is not industry-specific. Chording keyboards are not industry-specific. They're used by court stenographers, for example.

You've never looked up the pronunciation of a word? Wondered how live broadcast subtitles are done, given that no one can type fast enough to keep up?

It's not common knowledge.

Hmm. I know about it. I'm not involved in live TV subtitling.

But even if it was there was a day you didn't know about it and were told or taught by someone. Did that person act like a condescending douchebag?

Is it really necessary to personally insult someone because you're ignorant?

...but some of you are assholes who don't appreciate the person that gave themselves carpal tunnel -- most likely at a pittance -- to provide you with a valuable service.

If the CC person reading this... I always see your mistake and always goes "WTF" when you make mistake. Some deaf people do read lips and when it doesnt match what it was said on CC, We always  know the CC person farked up. Don't ever think us deaf people  dont see it. Most of us do.I really hope you are fired. On the side, I do know that many media use software to do the CC job and most of the time I can pick that up. Bottom line is this... us deaf people arent stupid like you think we are. Have a nice day...

None of you are better than anyone else.

If anything, the opposite is true.

But all of us, are better than  you.
