mrshowrules: what_now: I'm boooored. :(

This isn't interesting, nothing is happening, but I can't stop and watch a west wing marathon incase something happens.

tips to make it more entertaining.

1) post a rumour
2) wild speculation
3) troll someone
4) link the subject to an issue of interest to you (abortion, gun control, the middle-east)

I wish there were more pics of his gf's rack.

the money is in the banana stand: Mietsko: from my blood: Open acceptance of martial law.

And so it begins.

I tried to challenge the legitimacy of the police state earlier and I was basically shunned for being so callous as to imply the stay in your house rule was unconstitutional, and that during a crisis you should just do what your told.

So it goes.

Laws and rules require Order to survive. Amidst Chaos, all of that goes out the window, be it right or wrong. There is a time and place to challenge things, this would not be one of those times.

One moronic 19yr old with a pistol and a dame pressure cooker full of black powder is not capital C Chaos.

This isn't a gun thread, assholes, so shut it. No laws will prevent terrorist attacks. You can't possibly make any reasonable argument either for or against the 2A based on this.

The majority of citizens in Boston are choosing to cooperate with authorities during the search for this farkwad, rights are not being suspended. You are just another idiot with no grasp of what real martial law looks like.

There are greater restrictions placed on the populace during hurricanes and other natural disasters then there currently are in Boston during this manhunt, so take a nickle out of your piggy bank and buy some damn perspective.

Thanks for the ad hominem attack, brilliant work sir, way to miss the point, also.

Reminder - 45 Senators just voted to let Dzhokhar Tsarnaev buy weapons at gun shows w/no inconvenient background checks.

LAST TIME, people: Background checks are not permission, they are rejection. Put another way: a background check would not stop an immigrant with a state-provided ID, but a law-abiding citizen named John Wilkes Booth would be told to wait 7 days while they look into it further.

There's nothing WRONG with a background check, but it's not magic, either. It's still not enough to stop a first-time buyer with no criminal record who never reported the side-effects of a recent Cymbalta prescription.

According to the website spotcrime.com, Tamerlan was arrested for domestic violence in July 2009 after assaulting his girlfriend.

Okay, presuming it resulted in a conviction, that would probably prevent him from passing a background check. Now how about his brother?

His NINETEEN year old brother?

Age 18 for a long gun in Massachusetts.

Is that what he has?

Per the cops last night, yes. Until they killed a cop and took his gun.

I guess we'll find out where he got it.

Yep. But last week, he was just a guy. He could have bought it legally in Massachusetts with a full background check. So the "background check would have stopped this" claim is dead on arrival, not to mention they have homemade bombs.

So you think Tamerlan should have been allowed to buy?
Tamerlan is the older brother with the domestic violence count, if he has a conviction then no. As for Dzhokar, again, what criteria would you have used to disallow him before this week? The fact that he's Islamic? An immigrant? You don't like his looks? Or your super special crystal ball that you didn't use to prevent the bombings?

I just think stopping Tamerlan from buying is better than selling him an AR-15 and thousands of rounds of ammo. You're welcome to disagree.

BojanglesPaladin: serpent_sky: agree with people that I question the legality of the "lockdown" in the city (that word used to exclusively be used in prisons, not schools and now entire neighborhoods and towns) as well as the police entering homes if people did not answer the door or did not consent to a search. I believe they need to catch the suspect in this case, but not at any cost -- especially at the cost of our freedoms -- which is what they seem to be doing.

You seem to be completely missing the VOLONTARY aspect where Bostonians are complying with a REQUEST.

The truth of the matter is that they just can't simple say : "Look people, there's a bunch of angry, scared, tired cops out there with guns. Stay safe, stay inside."

You know what? Those guys were throwing grenades and dropping IEDs all over town. I know, because I was up all night listening to it play out on the scanner. This isn't a normal bad guy on the run. This is a guy trying to kill and hurt as many people as possible before he gets killed.

netweavr: Why would it matter if he is or is not a Canadian citizen.

Because Canada would literally 'Oops, here's an illegal entry into canada, just driving him to the border' and whistle while driving away

Even if he faces the death penalty (and he will, does anyone think this will NOT be a federal case?) there is no way Canada would ever refuse to hand over the guy. Even if Obama literally said 'I will personally chop his head off on the steps of congress with my sweet hanzo steel katana'

2013-04-19 04:06:49 PM

dletter: Doesn't that make it more of a "private seller"/"Irresponsible gun dealer" loophole, not a "Gun Show" loophole?

No, because the fact that it's at a gun show is what legalizes it. Irresponsible gun dealer at a gun dealership = illegal. Irresponsible gun dealer at a gun show = legal.

Ned Stark: Tommy Moo: No more stories about how these two were "good kids" or how it's "so shocking" that these "peaceful" young men could commit such a strange act. There's no longer any ambiguity. These are two more people poisoned by their religion to commit the exact kind of evil that is consistent with the teachings of their holy text. They grew to hate this country because of our tolerance of homosexuality and female sexuality. They terrorized us as a favor, to scare us onto a path of righteousness that they believed would point us toward salvation. This is your brain on Islam.

You know, just this month an American bomb in Afghanistan killed 20 people including 12 children. Not exactly a shocking or out of the ordinary event either.

But I'm sure Muslims are just mad about how free we are. I know that I surely fell compelled to mass violence whenever I hear about societies that are organized somewhat differently than my own.

You clearly don't understand Islam. Don't search your own feelings when trying to get into the minds of a death cult that places little value on the here-and-now. Instead, try reading the Koran and listening to sermons delivered by their leaders. That should give you some idea of how they think.

hutchkc: Abzzstain: So the police get a free pass to barge in without a search warrant and toss every farking house in Boston if they want. If you're not home they'll let themselves in.

I realize they've got to find the guy, but this seems like overkill and not exactly constitutional. I suspect police all over the country will be using this convenient tactic now whenever there's a fugitive.

If they are searching house to house, they knock on the door and ask to search. The people are allowing it. The cop casually walks through your house just to see if there is someone there. Had that happen a couple times. They spend all of like 2 minutes in your house. Not unconstitutional and they don't care about jack shiat except the person they are looking for. The first time it happened I was at my neighbors and his roommate was smoking a bowel when they went through. Not a word about it.

Look, if I were a cop and I came walking in on some human centipede action, I wouldn't say a word about it, either.

I tried to challenge the legitimacy of the police state earlier and I was basically shunned for being so callous as to imply the stay in your house rule was unconstitutional, and that during a crisis you should just do what your told.

So it goes.

Plain and simply it is not a police state. It is a request at this time, that is all.

Yeah except when people have tried to come out, like say to walk their dog they have had guns pointed at them and have been demanded to go back inside, not really a "request" if you ask me...

There's a known bomber who has killed and is armed to the teeth that could be anywhere in the city right now, and you're making a big deal about the police keeping people in doors? It's obviously being done to keep people safe and prevent any more casualties, but all you can see is "POLICE STATE STEPPIN' ON OUR FREEDUMS."

Moral and ethical absolutism is the arena of idiots and fanatics-just like the guy the police are protecting their citizens from.

2013-04-19 04:08:01 PM
Is there anyone involved in this operation who can organise a party in a brewery? From the 7/11 robbing terrorists themselves to the idiot cops who let a 19 year old frat-boy get away from them when they'd just shot his brother through to the authorities who have basically imposed martial law and still took 8 hours to "sweep" 60% of a street...the whole thing has been a shambles.

The US needs to ditch that stupid law and let special armed forces deal with shiat like this. The whole thing would have been over 14 hours ago if that was the case. That whole street would have been "swept" within 20 minutes too and we could have all moved on with our lives.

dletter: serpent_sky: vento: How in the heck do you not have a day or two worth of food in your house?

It's Friday, payday for a lot of people. I've been known to have next to nothing in the house -- certainly not a few days worth of meals - on the day before/day of payday. I'm sure that's not incredibly rare since most people structure their lives around when they get paid, and usually do the shopping on those days.

I always refill my medicine on a Tuesday, for example, because I get paid on Tuesdays and that's when I have the money I need for my prescriptions. I also grocery shop on Tuesdays.

Also I knew way too many people when I was in my early 20s who basically had nothing in the house foodwise, other than maybe a few snacks.. ate all fast food for meals.

I worked restaurants through most of my 20's, so yeah, I'd eat at work. When my wife first started dating me, she was amazed that my fridge would have a could of six packs of beer, a bottle of ketchup and a 12-pack of Cokes in it.

/Every once3 in awhile a Stouffer's Lasagna would make an appearance...
