Worse, they used the bombings as a example of why it should be passed.

He was an American and Muslim. For some reason the news media and law enforcement downplayed that.

Because his group memberhsips didn't really matter.

Hypothetically, if this guy made it to Canadia, could he be extradited? I know they have rules about "no death penalty" but I really don't see them wanting to pick this fight.

TheManofPA: On one hand, longer this goes, the more worried I am that he broke the perimeter.

On the other hand, the semester before the VT shootings, we had a convict escape the hospital, kill a guard and make a break towards the tech campus. They spent hours looking for him following up leads and he was just laying low in the bushes trying not to move for the whole day. I can understand why it could take so long since that took a day and they have a much narrower area to cover.

This guy is probably no where near Boston right now. He probably slipped away and is just getting into Ohio, so that's punishment enough.

I'd say ^^THIS^^, except that I don't live anywhere near all of this. I just can't believe the number of people who don't understand this. It's roughly the same amount of people who don't understand why the 1st Amendment doesn't protect them from getting kicked off a message board if they violate the website's TOS.

For starters, he's not a citizen, so it's irrelevant. Second, Canada refusing to hand him over would create such an international incident and massive shiatstorm there is no way that would happen unless like, possibly the NDP had a majority government and they legalized crack.

Dare I say it, but has anyone questioned the legality of locking down Boston?

Obviously I don't want to see anyone else get hurt and I want this guy caught as soon as possible, but the carte blanche we're giving law enforcement is how we ended up with things like the Patriot Act, warrantless wiretapping, etc.

Ironically, the police response to capturing this guy is allowing him to hold the whole city hostage without actually doing anything.

if I remember right from this morning, they were tracking a guy in a black hoodie and all of a sudden a cop spotted the actual suspect in an industrial building outside of the secured/surrounded area.

By the time they got manpower to search the building, suspect was gone.

bowtiesheep: hutchkc: Abzzstain: So the police get a free pass to barge in without a search warrant and toss every farking house in Boston if they want. If you're not home they'll let themselves in.

I realize they've got to find the guy, but this seems like overkill and not exactly constitutional. I suspect police all over the country will be using this convenient tactic now whenever there's a fugitive.

If they are searching house to house, they knock on the door and ask to search. The people are allowing it. The cop casually walks through your house just to see if there is someone there. Had that happen a couple times. They spend all of like 2 minutes in your house. Not unconstitutional and they don't care about jack shiat except the person they are looking for. The first time it happened I was at my neighbors and his roommate was smoking a bowel when they went through. Not a word about it.

Hands-down nastiest thing I've heard in the last hour

What if you say "no"?

Tommy Moo: No more stories about how these two were "good kids" or how it's "so shocking" that these "peaceful" young men could commit such a strange act. There's no longer any ambiguity. These are two more people poisoned by their religion to commit the exact kind of evil that is consistent with the teachings of their holy text. They grew to hate this country because of our tolerance of homosexuality and female sexuality. They terrorized us as a favor, to scare us onto a path of righteousness that they believed would point us toward salvation. This is your brain on Islam.

You know, just this month an American bomb in Afghanistan killed 20 people including 12 children. Not exactly a shocking or out of the ordinary event either.

But I'm sure Muslims are just mad about how free we are. I know that I surely fell compelled to mass violence whenever I hear about societies that are organized somewhat differently than my own.

2013-04-19 03:57:15 PM

drdstny: The gun show loophole essentially amounts to private citizens doing PPT / P2P (private party / person to person) transactions. You see these all the time at gun shows: people "wear" their guns with a sign on it that says what they want (cash or trade). Since there's nothing stopping one consenting party from looking the other way while another consenting party hands over money, THAT is the loophole. THAT is the problem. Responsible gun dealers won't look the other way, if for no other reason than to account for the serial number of the gun being sold.

There is also nothing stopping gun dealers (not random people wearing their guns with a sign) from looking the other way. THAT also is the loophole. Yes, "responsible" gun dealers won't look the other way. Duh, by definition you called them "responsible." There are also plenty of "irresponsible" gun dealers who don't even bother asking if you're even from that state, let alone whether you're allowed to purchase guns, are a felon, what your name is to track purchases with the serial number and so on.

ACunningPlan: vento: Nana's Vibrator: vento: serpent_sky: vento: Why in the heck are people in Boston, and in the area in question, out walking around? And in hoodies and/or with backpacks?

I almost always have a hoodie on, and my normal every day bag is a backpack. A stuffed animal backpack, but still, a backpack. They might just be doing normal things.

And I would hope that today of all days, you would be intelligent enough to stay in the house. And if you do have to go outside, you would dress as opposite of this guy as possible - meaning no hoodie and no backpack. There have been a lot of clueless idiots wasting a lot of resources.

F*ck all of that. I'm inside and I'll be eating grilled cheese on crust tonight. CRUST!
sucks worse for some, as marisyana mentioned earlier about people needing meds and other important things.

Crust?!?! Your sacrifices are noted. I agree about the people needind meds. They should call the police non-emergency number for options. Others that don't have food? How in the heck do you not have a day or two worth of food in your house?

If you live on a very tight budget, and only shop on a specific day. Not everyone can afford to stock up on the off-chance of terror-crazy-mayhem breaking out.
