There's a lot of stuff in this article that reads like liberal satire of conservatives.

But legal cigarette smoking is now seen as a corporate-sponsored, uncool, and dirty habit that leads to long-term health costs for society at large - in a way homegrown, hip, and mostly illegal pot smoking apparently does not.

I am so sick of this farking argument. When an assault style weapon is used to kill people the result is farking horrific. AW's only accounting for %1 of gun deaths does not make it any better when we are talking about classrooms full of dead kids.

I hear they actually believe that there's a man in the sky who watches over everything they do, and if they act according to some half-baked, self-serving set of rules the invisible sky man gave to another man who didn't know how to ask for directions, when they die they will go to a magical sky land and live on clouds with winged midgets who play harps and get everything they ever wanted. But, if they act in a manner contrary to the sky man's rules, they will go to a dark, smelly place full of fire, and be sodomized with hot pokers by by a red guy with a pointy tail.

And don't get me started on how they also believe sky man had a son who became a zombie.

FTA: "A boss who calls an employee "honey" might face accusations of fostering a hostile work environment, yet a television producer whose program shows an 18-year-old having sex does not. "

I don't even know how a boss being inappropriate is somehow compared to an 18-year-old (legal adult, over age of consent) having sex on TV.  That one is strange.

: "But if vast numbers of girls younger than 16 need after-sex options to prevent unwanted pregnancies, why isn't there a flood of statutory-rape charges being lodged against older teenagers for having consensual relations with younger girls?"

Because there's a chance these girls are having sex with boys their own ages? Just for starters....

And the strangest of them all is a bit long, but he's lamenting the days when  leaders could openly have affairs (with women of all ages) and nobody cared.

whereas pistols cause over most of the gun deaths in america(one could probably say that handguns on a daily to weekly basis kill more people than assault weapons have, domestically speaking, in the last 10-20 years.).

oh and of all the gun deaths in america, the majority of them are self-inflicted, and overwhelmingly those are deliberate.

so no, the problem isn't really assault weapons. yes, those are *A* problem, but not the bigger problem.

the bigger problem is multi-fold. easy access to handguns, far easier than it is to get mental health care, it seems.
a culture where violence, both against yourself and others, isn't just an 'ok' thing, but in so many ways is actively encouraged.
and people who obfuscate the issue either by saying 'oh there's not a problem' or screaming about a series of isolated incidents that could have happened regardless.

I thought, from the headline, that the article was going to be sourcing quotes said by Republicans and then perhaps construed a bit farther than intended, or perhaps taken out of context. Or something, presenting Republicans in a very... bad light.

...somehow, I didn't think it would be a summery of the goddamn article/op-ed.

I guess telling me what it is is TOO SUBTLE FOR ME

A boss who calls an employee "honey" might face accusations of fostering a hostile work environment, yet a television producer whose program shows an 18-year-old having sex does not. Many colleges offer courses on lurid themes from masturbation to prostitution, even as campus sexual-harassment suits over hurtful language are at an all-time high.

Young people are learning that masturbation is ok but we can't even sexually harass our secretaries! What kind of madness is this?!

This article wouldn't have passed as an 8th grade English essay. It contradicts itself in nearly every paragraph even without addressing all the stupid things the author is trying to point out.

I'm sure I'll see it reposted on Facebook. I'm already seeing crap about Boston being on lockdown compared to Nazis and a trial-run to see how easy it will be for Obama to take your guns.
