The Dems have to approve it because they like spending money, the GOP hates it.  Sadly, there is no Dem available to propose spending on Texas, so the GOP has to even though they hate it.

Sorry Ted.  This is a man-made disaster.

According to a report filed by Texas regulators and reviewed by, the stored fertilizer posed no fire or explosive risks. The worst possible scenario, the report said, would be a 10-minute release of ammonia gas that would kill or injure no one.

He's a real player.  I'm not sure what he truly believes.  But the man knows his audience and knows precisely how to play to them.  He's smart and manipulating.  He's tinkering with dark political forces like a master.  That makes him more dangerous than your run-of-the-mill dick like Steve King or Michelle Bachmann.

How about getting the fertilizer plant to pony up 100% for the repairs and settlements with homes and businesses affected by their negligence?

He's apparently very intelilgent. He's also young, he's only 42 years old. If you look at his career, he has done a lot for being only 42.

Geez, subby.  Don't you understand the difference here?  This was a tragic accident due to human incompetence.  Hurricane Sandy was due to God's retribution for gay marriage.  That's why Texas deserves all the resources available.

Study it out.

He already did that 2 years ago. After years of talking tough on secession, he had his hat in his hand begging for federal assistance during the wildfires.

Oh, you didn't expet these idiots to actually practice what they preach, did you?

Anhydrous ammonia is inflammable (autoignition temperature is 1204°F and the flammable limits are 16 - 25%) and does not explode.  It is reacted with a lot of other stuff to make explosives and fertilizers, but it is not explosive itself.  It also is frequently stored at atmospheric pressure (it auto-refrigerates to about -28°C).  It has other dangers that would surprise you, but not due to fire and explosions.  I've been working with anhydrous ammonia off and on for 35 years now (also with chlorine, phosgene, hydrogen, and hydrogen cyanide -- Chemistry is FUN!), and the derp is thicker now than at any time in the past.

The blast was due to another fertilizer.  The risk assessment is still nonsense, but Farkers are too smart to ridicule it for the wrong reason.  Unless we feel like it.  Or we're bored.

2013-04-19 12:22:56 PM
If we give Texas a handout it'll just make them dependent and less supportive of ideas like freedom. If these guys have great business sense now, just imagine how their economy will soar once they have to pull themselves up from their bootstraps! This is the perfect time not just to reject federal money, but to gut their state budget as well. For liberty.

He didn't say that their shouldn't be a bill for Sandy relief, he said that it was loaded up with extras that were unrelated. I haven't read the whole bill, but I imagine that is true. That's actually not an unreasonable position.

Getting a disaster relief bill that's pork free is difficult, because one community's pork is another's necessity.

Okay, maybe I'm missing something here. It seems like Cruz wasn't calling Hurricane Sandy aid itself pork; he was calling the riders in the Sandy aid bill pork. Voting against Sandy aid on those grounds may have been some misplaced priorities, but I don't quite see the hypocrisy in this particular instance, unless he's defending a rider in another bill or dismissing it as insignificant.

Not surprised at all. That's pretty much on par with all of the big mouth anti big government hypocrites. The sad thing is their voting base is too ignorant to put 2 and 2 together.

Know who ELSE wants to forbid pork, Teddy boy?    Yeah, that's right, the Koran!  Ted Cruz is trying to force Shariah law on the US!

And there's the rub. Any bill for relief from this explosion will almost certainly have some pork in it by his definition. I guarantee it. And Ted Cruz will vote for all of that pork.

This is not a natural disaster. It's entirely man made. Why should the government pay at all? Doesn't the fertilizer manufacturer have insurance? Are we willing to absolve them of any responsibility for the damage to the community that they have caused?

The "pork" in the Sandy bill was for infrastructure projects to a) get local businesses back on their feet and b) try to proactively protect the city should this happen again.  You know, shiat to minimize the damage going forward.

So, do you think Ted Cruz will be as firm in his beliefs when similar amendments are made to the "West Texas Relief Bill."  Because I suspect he is as hypocritical as is being characterized here.

2013-04-19 12:31:27 PM
Maybe this explosion wouldn't have happened in the first place if OSHA had been properly funded and the plant had been inspected some time over the past five years.

This needs to be repeated frequently.  There is a very distinct difference between Ted Cruz and, say, Rick Perry.  Both a complete, unmitigated, first-class assholes, but Rick Perry is also mind-numbingly stupid. Ted Cruz is not.

I can only hope Texas really does start turning purple so when 2018 rolls around this farking prick won't cakewalk to re-election.

Red Dawn got a few things wrong.  The Cuban takes over the US with TeaParty corporate money, not the old Soviet Union.

Full status to Cuba and the Tea Party's checks bouncing will have Cruz crying like a Boehner.
