(Mashable)   Epicurious is sorry if using the Boston bombing to self-promote recipes "seemed insensitive". After all, using terror and murder to push scones is kind of a grey area   (mashable.com) divider line 29

They didn't use the Boston bombing, they mentioned it like they would the weather.  It's shortened small talk to take the edge off a bot spitting recipes at you.

As long as the recipes don't call for use of a pressure cooker, I think he's ok.

/aisle seat please

Promoting recipes is fine.

Had they had the gall to promote Boston Market, on the other hand...

This is an abomination.  They've gone too far.

Cherries are much better than cranberries in scones.

A can of Boston baked beans works almost like a pressure cooker when heated.

Yada yada yada . . . from my cold, dead hands.

I'm just blown away by the insensitivity.

Promoting recipes is fine, but it doesn't have to be in the same tweet were you claim to be showing sympathy for the victims of a bombing.  Sometimes 1 tweet should be separated into 2.

Where's all the outrage about CNN pushing Bourdain's "Parts Unknown" right next to stories about maimings and amputations?

so sorry

If we allow this bombing to stifle our implementation of capitalism, which includes advertising, then the terrorists have won!!!!

OK, to their credit they did have the balls to remove the "seem insensitive" (sorry if you were offended) and admit that they were insensitive (what a real apology looks like).

I have no idea how this twitter thing kids are using these days works, but those tweets seemed computer generated to coincide with what's trending.  Can you do that on Twiter?

People say I'm crazy, but they'll see, THEY'LL SEE! The next wave of attacks will involve a fat yellow guy throwing milk and cornflakes. MARK MY WORDS!!!

Fer cryin' out loud, this stuff isn't that hard.  Before you say something, you put yourself in the shoes of the victim:  how would it feel to read/hear what you're about to say?  Usually, that single question will have a self-evident answer that you should heed.  Simple as that.

2013-04-19 12:33:06 PM
In fact, before saying anything, put yourself in the shoes of all victims, anywhere.  If anyone anywhere can be offended by what you intend to say, then you should go into the cellar, curl up into a ball, and cry about what a bad person you have become.

Let's keep this in perspective. They don't sell pastries or even the recipes. They have a database.

Consider these offerings, which you have seen repeatedly if you are a fan of Fark, Jay Leno's news clippings, or the web:

Back to school sale on rifles and handguns!

Happy Hannakah to our Jewish customers! Hams 35% off this week!

Now that is tactless. It's not like they are using BS propaganda or public tragedies to sell weapons and ammos to paranoid Republicans or something, but it's crass and worse, ineffective advertising.

To honor the stupidity of the American marketeer and advertising agent, our Hot Cross Buns are extra-sticky today! Buy one dozen, get another dozen free! Throw them at your friends and close personal enemies!

Buckland's bakery is pleased to announce the successful invention of heat-seeking bread rolls. Now make your food fights more accurate and less frustrating with the HSSR (Heat Seeking Sweet Roll) or the Anti-Terrorist DonutMine(TM). This is not baking for a food fight. It is food total war!

I'm sure somebody could, but probably not the Anne Hathaway intern-type who was tasked with runnting Epicurious's Twitter account.

Ah, the classic non-apology: we're sorry if this seemed offensive, which is basically the same as the classic fark-off reply of "we're sorry you're offended."
