Mr. Right: I thought Chechnya hated Russia.  What's the beef with the U.S.?

I was wondering that myself. Must've been radicalized here on the internet. Speculation?

xtragrind: Mr. Right: I thought Chechnya hated Russia.  What's the beef with the U.S.?

There is a percentage of Chechnya that has the standard Muslim beef with the U.S.  These brothers then seemed to spend some time in Kazakhstan so as much as the morons on fark don't want it to be a religious thing and were hoping for some NRA guy, it's going to end up being a religious thing.

Kyrgyzstan where Muslim extremists hide from the Uzbek dictator. I hate Karimov but I have to admit that he scares Muslim extremists away

Lors Dukajev blew himself up recently in Denmark, but his goal was Jyllands Posten.

These Chechnyans don't care, they're just radical muslims.

/I know you haven't heard of Lors Dukajev, which is kinda weird really. I guess bombs are only interesting to Americans if they happen in the USA, in which case they go completely mental for years over it.

bungle_jr: markfara: keypusher: nekom: This is what's REALLY baffling me this morning.  Now that the suspects are ID'd and their life is flashing before our eyes via their social media presence and such...  They had a life here.  A decent life.  Why throw that all away?

Guessing, they:

1) hated our "permissive" society

2) hated what we do in the Middle East.

This is really the kind of sh*t that brings out my inner gun-toting right-winger. I just have no regard for people who come over here from their crap countries and live comfortably as they talk about how f*cked up and evil we are. . . much less kill innocents on in the name of their glorious political/religious views.

Honestly, just stay in your third-world sh*tholes.

couldn't have said it better myself

Aw man! I remember my brother-in-law from Central Asia got mad at me for driving a car. He refused to get into a car if a woman drove. When I refused to cook his majesty dinner because I was busy with my  children he threw a huge fit in my home. He is never allowed in my house again. I would not let my daughter see a man treat women like he does. His wife just worships him and defends his crap. They treat women like total crap so to see a society where women drive and work etc must be driving those jerks crazy. AND THE WOMEN defend it. Probably couldn't find a girl to worship at their feet. My brother-in-law had an arranged marriage and she is threatened to comply with his dictatorship. So the uncle is right that they are losers. I don't care how educated they are- they are losers

Yeah, I am so bitter

that's nuts. it's one thing to comply with what your own country's customs/rules/laws dictate, but to criticize citizens of another country in their own country, that is just really douchey!

i spent 3+ months in saudi arabia, drove off-base a lot (transporting other military, etc, folks between p-sab and eskon village), and for some reason only went to downtown ryhad 1 time, and while i don't understand their beliefs, especially the way women are treated, i knew that it was THEIR country and that is the way they do things there...i just try not to get in the way or piss them off

You are assuming their heritage is the motivation.  It could easily be something like John Hancock (marathon sponsor) screwed over their parents.

/whole thing has felt a lot like the London bus bombings, so yeah, heritage/religion will likey end up being the reason.

The CIA trained a bunch of terrorists in the region to fight the Soviets, then stabbed them in the back and left them to the Russians after the Cold War ended. You know, same thing that happened in Afghanistan.

jack21221: NASAM: Sorry American media.  Not the white, homegrown, anti government terrorist you were hoping for.

Well, they're white, and they've been here since they were kids, so they were kind of homegrown.

So it's not the middle eastern Al Qaeda cell you were hoping for either.

I wasn't hoping for anyone.  I just wanted the bastards caught.  I just think it's disgusting the way our media was openly hoping for a right winger.

LesserEvil: Yeah, an entire religion can be bad.

The problem with Islam is that it is in dire need of global reform.

I don't think you can say an entire religion is "bad".  But I get your point.  Islam has two big problems.

1 The guy you are supposed to model your life after and strive to be like did some very farked up shiat that is completely irreconcilable with freedoms most western people agree on.

2 They are still a fundamentalist religion.  There is no major branch of Islam that doesn't see the Koran as the direct word of God.  Which makes it that much more difficult to say the things that soem of the things Mo did were wrong and shoudl not be emulated.

Cant' fix the first until you fix the second.  And until that happens Islam is going to be "worse" when it comes to shiat liek this.

BTW, be prepared to be labeled an islamaphobe and have people accuse you of hating all muslims.

With a little tweak or two that sounds pretty much like Government.

Yes, I know.

I actually have friends who are Muslim, and some I know well enough to discuss this stuff with, and they agree - of course, they also drink and while they avoid pork, they don't think it's the end of the world if they accidentally ingest it, so the whole "immutable word of God" thing isn't as true with them.

Not having a true "central authority" doesn't help matters. While there are sects, and even ayatollahs and imams, these aren't hard and fast assignments, and very localized.

Mohammed spent his whole life writing rules for Muslims that basically aped what Arabic culture was already steeped in, justifying it as "the word of God" - which helped him convert the entire peninsula by the time he died. Most other religions flew in the face of what those tribes had done in practice for millenia, so logically, one that is "customized" to make their practices legitimate would be supported by the elders.

They were sleeper agents. They were subconsciously programmed.
I bet they call a call from an unlisted number that triggered their programming, maybe said something like zero dark thirty five.

Not that it really matters, but the sensasionalism with this one is strong. The guy had zero shot of making the Olympic team. Absolutely zero, he was completely out of the map.

That is the proper attitude to have when traveling abroad.
far to many people. Generally upper class white folks
seem to think they can go running their lips anywhere they please. Mexico thailand saudi arabia. Shoot your mouth off in places like that and dont be surprised if your never heard from again.

A lot of terrorists come from middle-class families.  A lot are educated ... the older brother was yet another engineering student turned mass-murderer.  Draw your own psychological/sociological conclusions.
