(NewsBusters)   Even NPR isn't immune from the godawful reporting over the past week: All Things Considered says that Hitler is a prominent figure of the anti-government crowd. Yup, because when you think "fascism," you think less government control   (newsbusters.org) divider line 82

Yeah, that Beer Hall Putsch was just a party that got out of hand.

Nobody said they had to have an ethos.

Pretty sure the Weimar Republic he helped get rid of was Government, so...

Fascism? Was Hitler a Nafi now?

They're only anti-government on things they disagree with. Both "sides" want the government all up in your business, just in different areas some of the time.

2013-04-19 08:43:54 AM
No no no, the joke is that Hitler's sympathetic because he knows what it's like not to be able to finish a race because of bombing.
Also, the quote they give is probably lumping Hitler with "right wing individuals", not "anti-government".
They got everything wrong.

Funny how the anti-government crowd only gets vocal when a Democrat is in office. Especially if he's blah.

The same people who are clinging onto their guns saying they need "Second Amendment Solutions" to encroaching fascism are the ones who cheered on George W. Bush as he set up this massive surveillance structure.

This article is dumb even by Potato Buster's standards.

Wrap it up, other right-wing "posters". No one is going to top this piece of shiat right here.

Exactly. That's why he and Stalin were besties who agreed on everything and never ever had a falling out.

No, they weren't.  Many of the same people who talk about resisting a tyrannical government were pissed off about the PATRIOT Act *BECAUSE* it gave too much surveillance power to the government:

A year ago,  Gun Owners of  America [GOA] -- together with a wide range of organizations on all sides of the ideological spectrum -- warned that the so-called "P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act's" overly broad definition of terrorism could allow the federal government to spy on -- and potentially shut down -- groups like GOA.

(that's from 2003).
You just didn't notice them saying so back then, because it didn't fit your world view.

Most American right-wingers are not pro-Hitler

Only because they know so little about history. If they knew what Hitler stood for, they would love him. Or hate themselves. It's hard to say how the dissonance would resolve itself.

So much this.

I actually left the country because of the Patriot Act.

So fark all you gun grabbers who think it's a childish right/left thing. It's a childish right/wrong thing. Rights are, by definition, right. Taking them away is wrong.

It's so sad how NPR went from the best news agency in the country to one that gives the hipsters fluff in just a few years. There's a reason why all their heavy-hitter reporters and analysts walked away over the last five years.

Yes, I bet there is a reason, but those analysts and reporters that left are so tight-lipped, they wouldn't even tell you the reason under torture  enhanced interrogation methods.

Isn't it weird how there were fewer anti-government militia types when we were virtually strip-searched at airports and radio stations were told what songs they couldn't play since we were at war with Oceania? Guess they were fine with the government running their lives, since the president didn't look so, you know, "socialist."

I keep hearing this, but neither myself nor any of the other gun owners I associate with are happy with the Patriot Act or any of that nonsense. If anything, the gun owners I've met have been more concerned about other rights than many non-gun owners are.

Fascism takes elements of socialism and elements of nationalism and mixes them together.  The founder of fascism, Benito Mussolini, was a disillusioned socialist.

That's not to say that fascism = socialism, just that they share some ideological DNA.

A few of the same people.   Most of the same people are doing exactly what that person described.  Like, my family, everyone I work with, and almost every prominent republican media personality I've seen on TV or the radio.  I didn't hear a peep from any of them about this until Obama came into office, when everyone started freaking out about the second coming of Hitler.  Few even believe me that such surveillance and detainment of citizens occurred under Bush... It's all liberal revisionist history.  I shiat you not.

You just didn't notice because.. well, I dunno.  I guess it doesn't fit into your worldview or some other bullshiat like that.  We're not talking about the small minority of libertarians that are consistent in their opposition.  We're talking about, you know, conservative republicans.  The people who, and this is the point that you somehow managed to miss, eagerly supported surveillance and detainment under Bush but see the same policies under Obama as being fascist.
