JackieRabbit: This smacks of an FBI disinformation campaign (NTTAWWT). There were five bombs total. So there has to be at least five people involved. Two guys carrying in five backpacks would have drawn immediate attention. Yet they only speak of two, the identities of which they are not releasing. They probably have a pretty good idea of who the other three are, but want to engender a false sense of safety in them. I suspect we are going to hear about a SWAP operation in a few days.

Or possibly early reports were wrong, as they often are in the immediate aftermath of a confusing event where a lot of information is being processed simultaneously. Such as reports of explosions that were later found to be incorrect and at least one bag which was detonated to be safe, but was subsequently discovered to be just a normal bag, no bomb materials inside.

ZeroCorpse: dababler: Everyone is describing the brothers as super polite, good athletes, decent students, good people so....WHY THE fark DID THEY DO IT?!

The one that was killed was Muslim, and listened to the teachings of a radical prior to his arrival in America approximately a year ago. He was up for the Olympics. `Not sure what happened there, but clearly he's not rocking the Gold Medal, so he didn't make it for some reason. He had expressed in the past that he didn't understand Americans and had a hard time making friends here. He seemed concerned with Americans' immoral behavior-- I can only assume he meant this from a religious point of view.

So there are a few motives right there:
1. Bitter about his own athletic career hitting a wall, takes it out on other athletes.
2. Radical Muslim teachings.
3. Felt like an outcast.
4. Believed Americans are immoral heathens.
5. Came from a place where war and terrorism are acceptable answers to your problems.

My guess? He grew up seeing a lot of bad things. He was influenced by a radical religious teacher. He felt alone and excluded here in America because of his religion and foreignness. He was angry that he didn't get to represent America in the Olympics. He convinced his brother to join him in a personal crusade to get revenge or make a personal statement.

I've known athletes who take failure to be a sign that they have nothing left to live for. They take their sports very seriously, and it could be as simple as that: He dedicated his life to boxing with Olympic dreams, and when he fell short, he snapped.

It's very doubtful he was acting for a group. It's more likely he was a sad, angry man who let radical religion, extreme sports conditioning, and his own feelings of failure drive him to extremism and petty revenge.

That's my theory too.  And after almost 12 hours, I need a break. Goodnight/morning/afternoon farkers.

raerae1980: So, this is what I wake up to.  Was wondering, actually hoping, that Boston PD would have caught both men.

And one of the suspects died?  Did he talk or confess before he died?

And Boston's on lockdown?  Damn, hell of a morning.

Preliminary reports from the hospital he was taken to didn't confirm that it was him per se but a staff member was quoting that someone brought in under guard had 'more bullet wounds than they could count' so I'm going to go ahead and guess he didn't have a lot to say unless you ran him up a flag pole in the Boston morning wind.

Twitter and other Internet sources were running with the story of the MIT shooting/carjacking nearly a full hour before any of the cable news stations picked up on it.  In fact, shiat was going down in Watertown before CNN even broke with the story that anyone had been shot at MIT.

A million times THIS!

No one blabbing on and on about 'libs' and 'rightwing' and yadda yadda...

Why does this have to be political in ANY way?

Because the FARK admins and mods let the trolls overrun the Politics Tab over the course of the last few years.

Because in all of the previous threads Farkers were having a circle jerk fantasizing about it being a Tea Bagger on Tax Day.  Now that it's Islamists it's all "why bring up that it wasn't tea tards, man?"

Not in the last thread it wasn't. I know that's what you choose to believe, but that doesn't make it true. I've been watching this thing play out for almost 12 hours, and the previous thread wasn't talking about politics.

Nope, it was scanner feeds and twitter feeds and photos and google maps of everything going on. It was freaking awesome!

Many do speak Russian as their native/first language, though there are some for whom it's Chechen.

The Third Man: Regarding the incident in Niagara Falls:  I saw the Bomb Squad truck speeding up the 190 from Buffalo to the Falls.  But now the local Buffalo TV stations are saying the incident is "routine", and the folks involved weren't even Russians.

In short, itchy-trigger-finger antics from Da Falls Police.

===============

That's funny, because the bombers aren't Russian either(despite how the press is trying to spin it), they're Chechens.........America's good Muslim Chechen friends.  The people America paid to destabilize Russia and murder Russian school kids.

Gotta feed that squirrel.

FARK first became really unbearable to me around the 2008 election.  Had to take a few months away, and then forgot my original password, so I had to make a new account (I go back to about 2003-ish, the Admiral Ackbar PS thread got me hooked; "It's a Map!" still rules).

This place used to be awesome.  Now, with the immediate breakdown of all events into predictable political arguments, the overzealous deletion of posts, and, worst of all, the reduction of BOOBIES threads, I'm only coming here out of habit.  I'm sure at some point I'll find something better.

You just gotta gloss over those people...it takes work, but I find it works...
