I work for the MIT Police, so I'm getting a kick, yadda yadda and... Thanks for that. For those who are curious, the man killed was a very nice guy, and more than that, he was a Geek, and a damned good one. "We lost one of our own" takes on a double meaning for me now.

This is what we're wearing.

DamnYankees: It's worth mentioning that this bombing makes no sense in terms of Chyechnian independence. How the fark does that cause improve due to this?

Any motive right now is 100% guessing.

You are 100% correct, but both these guys are all over social media with their cause as well, so we have some "pretty good guesses" actually...

Just Bob: Watertown in lockdown.  How comforting it must be as a Watertown resident, where a class A firearm permit is near impossible to obtain, knowing that you're hunkered down and armed with nothing north of some charming butter knives while a psycho armed terrorist is running around.

No worries CNN has been reporting there are 9000 cops in watertown. they got you covered.

Rwa2play: Grand_Moff_Joseph: Rwa2play: GoldSpider: WTF Indeed: What do you mean? The bombers are Caucasian.

True, and evidently they were able to acquire guns without a background check.

If true, wow the NRA's gonna see hell for that~!  So will those 45 Senators that voted down the background checks (watered down as it was).

Yep, I said something like that way back on thread #1.  If these guys used background check-less channels to get their weapons and ammo, the schadenfreude meter on the Senate is going to implode.

Ohhhhhhhh that's gonna be fun if that were true.

Massachusetts has strict gun laws.  It's illegal to purchase a gun from a private person without a "background check" in the form of a FID card.  In fact, it's illegal to *POSSESS* a gun without a FID.

There are only two possibilities:  Either they possessed the guns legally, and had a Massachusetts FID showing that they passed a background check, or they possessed the guns illegally.  It's as simple as that.

In other words, Massachusetts law is already much stricter that what was proposed and failed in the Senate the other day.  If anyone tries to make political hay out of it, saying that's why we need universal background checks, it's likely to backfire.

/BTW, national concealed carry reciprocity garnered more "Yes" votes in the Senate (57) than the background check (54).

Possible, but ultraviolence usually happens in fits of rage or whimsy, not careful planned terrorism, right? I mean, The Joker is a character, not a person.

Class B will allow you to own a gun and use it for protection within your own home. They are a default issue. I know because I have one and used to live in Watertown. Secondly, there are reports of hundreds of police officers in the area. If you think a piece of paper that says "A" on it is necessary to feel safe, you're a dummy.

I also like the use of "normal" and "rational" to describe humans.

Not to mention there's SWAT, FBI, ATF, etc running around. And the scanner just mentioned suicide vest. I must have a delayed feed.

Mike Chewbacca: Igor Jakovsky: I understand one of the suspects is dead from multiple gun shot wounds and the other is still running around out there. I do hope they catch the other one alive so maybe we can find out why they did it. Chechens? Really? Seems kind of pointless to have a bombing and not even a manifesto being issued or anything. Listening to wbz on tunein and they said the whole city is under a shelter order.

Tamerlan also had a bomb strapped to his chest. It seems it went off, so yes he was shot a lot, but I'm pretty sure the bomb would have done the trick by itself.

Well that is going to be a mess to clean up.

Yes, the older brother had a suicide vest.

Both do, not just the dead one. I was transcribing the feed as it came in, they're repeating the suicide vest warning as I type this: "Current outstanding party may be wearing a suicide vest."

Over the scanner, I *think* they just said that: the dead suspect had a trigger on him and therefore the suspect at large may have a suicide vest on.  Is this right?
