thanks for the lol

aspAddict: Are you assuming they went to a local sporting store and bought them?

Obviously they went to a gun show and exploited the "gun show loophole".

I'm going to enjoy reading Fark today and reading the mea culpas from people who "knew" this was a "second amendment solution."

/the above was not a factual statement.

fredklein: bulldg4life: DamnYankees: If these dudes are innocent, this is gonna be horrible.

They were shooting at cops and throwing explosives.

What in the blue bloody f*ck makes you think they are innocent?

Well, in all honesty, the cops thought these people were Chris Dorner, so...

[www.pslweb.org image 400x225]

[extras.mnginteractive.com image 500x311]

They also though a guy with a wallet in his hands was shooting at them.

...and countless other examples where cops weren't just 'wrong', but were very, very wrong.

So, now we're supposed to trust police that this time they have the right guys?

All the throwing of explosives by the suspects is pretty damning.

WinoRhino: Bendal: Entire city of Boston ordered inside and locked down now. Police doing house to house search, all transit, universities and businesses ordered closed. Wow.

My wife works in Kendal Square near MIT. She got phone calls from her company starting at 5am to stay home and not come into work. We used to live in the very neighborhood in Watertown where the gun play was happening, but live north of there now. We keep recognizing all the houses and businesses on TV.

Dude that's gotta be trippy.

Cybernetic: DamnYankees: This kid must be scared beyond his mind right now. Not that we need to feel bad for him, but just from a sociological point of view, imagine how farked he must feel.

People like him are not only willing to die for their cause, but actually WANT to die for their cause. They don't seem to fear death the way that a normal, rational person would.

We have no idea what this guy is like or what his cause it. You're making shiat up to fit a pre-determined narrative.

machoprogrammer: thisispete: Chechens? That came out of left field. Typically they go after Russians. What's their beef with the US?

Uhh, Chechen rebels are way more intense than even Al Qaeda. You know how insane Russia is about some things? Well, take that and apply it to militant Islam. In fact, Shamil Basayev (old Chechen rebel leader) said Al Qaeda was not violent enough for his tastes.

Yeah, these guys were (according to their posts online) in a jihad against Assad of Syria? Again, everyone is correct, these are Caucasian radical Muslim terrorists.

The one that got shot dead (Tamerlan Tsarnaev) seems to have been a boxer, or an aspiring one.

He was featured in an article by a photographer:  http://johanneshirn.photoshelter.com/gallery-slideshow/G0000VQW7v6xWA 7 o/?start=

The sunglasses are eerily similar to the ones he's wearing on the FBI pictures.

Sadly, the captions above the pictures also show that he was 'very religious' and had a girlfriend that converted to islam.
While that might or might not have anything to do with his motives, this will certainly fan the flames on the subject.

100 Watt Walrus: Summary for those just starting their coffee:

Apparent convenience store robbery
MIT cop responds, these clowns shoot him multiple times
They carjack somebody
(gap in my knowledge)
At some point they're in an SUV that may have been a stolen police vehicle
They shoot at the cops and throw and/or plant grenades and/or IEDs
(No kidding, on the scanner there was something akin to "Shots fired! Shots fired! Grenade! Grenade! Grenade!", and there's a YouTube video out there with half a minute of sustained gunfire)
Running firefight
"Black Hat" shot multiple times, possibly run over, possibly injured by bomb strapped to chest
"White Hat" escapes
"Black Hat" taken to Beth Israel, dies
Code Black (usually means bomb or bomb threat) at area hospital, but NOT Beth Israel
"White Hat" spotted (twice?) but gets away, possibly in another firefight
Now at large.

/Oh, and at some point an innocent who was very much in the wrong place at the wrong time spent 20m face-down on the ground with a robot probing him, then he was stripped and put in the back of a police vehicle before being cleared.

And we've got cops, FBI, Homeland Security, National Guard, HumVees, and at one point something described as a "tank."
I know this sounds like I'm Michael-Bay-ing you, but really, seriously, I'm not.

It could be AKitz's roomate. He did say "we" multiple times and never "I".

possible, but Akitz never mentioned roommate, and this is hours after the fact, so even if it is the roommate, I highly suspect he was there before or after.

He specifically mentioned that the chair that got shot was his roommate's chair, not his.

Originally from Chechnya, but living in the United States since five years, Tamerlan says: "I don't have a single American friend, I don't understand them."

If he wins enough fights there, Tamerlan says he could be selected for the US Olympic team and be naturalized American. Unless his native Chechnya becomes independent, Tamerlan says he would rather compete for the United States than for Russia.

Tamerlan fled Chechnya with his family because of the conflict in the early 90s, and lived for years in Kazakhstan before getting to the United States as a refugee.

While the death and injury toll has been terrible, incompetent terrorists really are my favourite sort.

Tomahawk513: Chechens were the primary foreign fights in Iraq and Afghanistan.

There's very little evidence to support that assertion.

2013-04-19 08:11:27 AM

bloobeary: common sense is an oxymoron: They haven't found the second one yet. Suspicious sightings everywhere, both inside and outside the police perimeter.

The second one (being the "White Hat" guy) is still on the run, then?

I was talking about this, from the provided link, though: "7:15 AM: NPR's Dina Temple-Raston reports that third person (described as an "accomplice") has been arrested. "

Around 5am, there was word on the scanner that someone had come downstairs at 89 Dexter (what the folks in the thread were calling "the bomb house" and saying was the home base for these guys) and closed the back door, which had been standing open. The police had assumed the building was empty until that point, as they had entered it earlier. Shortly afterward, a call came for a negotiator to be sent to 89 Dexter.

My guess is, this third guy was hiding inside.

Seems like they released him, but my scanner stream's had a few glitches.

2013-04-19 08:11:29 AM

Zentor: Not that it's been shown yet, but if they're Chechen there's a good chance they're jihadists.

what_now: I mean...what POSSIBLE reason could he have for targeting us?

As has already been mentioned by others, plenty of Chechens fought Americans in Iraq. They've grown up around terror and it's not that hard to believe they'd have a grievance with the Great Satan. Don't get wrapped up into the big picture ("Why would Chechens attack America") when it can easily be an individual issue ("The Americans killed my brother and two cousins in Iraq").

//Speculation of course, but just exploring possibilities.

Could we hold them at least partially responsible?
The douchebag running now has a scholarship.
That horrible system needs to be fixed asap

We're terrible at this, but it runs both ways. I work in refugee resettlement and in the last year we've had one 80 year old Iraqi woman inadmissible because she was forced to join the Ba'ath Party when she was a high school teacher in the 70s. Another Somali girl rejected because she was kidnapped by Al Shabab and "supported" them by carrying supplies when she was 14 rather than get raped and shot. Our bureaucracy is infuriatingly inept at determining who and who is not a threat. This will only make it worse for those who are not and who see America as their only hope for a peaceful life after years of horrible suffering.

I understand one of the suspects is dead from multiple gun shot wounds and the other is still running around out there. I do hope they catch the other one alive so maybe we can find out why they did it. Chechens? Really? Seems kind of pointless to have a bombing and not even a manifesto being issued or anything. Listening to wbz on tunein and they said the whole city is under a shelter order.
