So farking surreal...

Got a call from my wife's friend in Watertown this morning. Shoot out was right down the street from them.

I hope they find this little asshole alive, or if not, that he isn't able to take anyone else with him.

2013-04-19 08:04:30 AM

what_now: Ok, fine. But his beef isn't with us, it's with Putin. Why target the Boston Marathon? Why target Boston at all? We held farking protests over Russia's treatment of Chechnya. I'm absolutely positive I saw a rally for Chechnya in Copley sq, which is 1) where we hold our our pointless rallies and 2) EXACTLY WHERE THE BOMB WENT OFF??

I mean...what POSSIBLE reason could he have for targeting us?

WBUR was reporting that Chechens apparently are pissed that we took so long to get involved in Bosnia in the 90s.

I mean if they're looking for a reason, I guess that's one

Two, quite literally, Caucasians.

It could be AKitz's roomate. He did say "we" multiple times and never "I".

possible, but Akitz never mentioned roommate, and this is hours after the fact, so even if it is the roommate, I highly suspect he was there before or after.

That and Akitz has been on literally every news agency I can think of tonight telling the story. Seems this guy is grabbing fame, because if he really wanted to talk about it, he had a huge chance.

Entire city of Boston ordered inside and locked down now. Police doing house to house search, all transit, universities and businesses ordered closed. Wow.

Great.. now the links are farked on this thread :/

2013-04-19 08:05:00 AM

common sense is an oxymoron: They haven't found the second one yet. Suspicious sightings everywhere, both inside and outside the police perimeter.

The second one (being the "White Hat" guy) is still on the run, then?

I was talking about this, from the provided link, though: "7:15 AM: NPR's Dina Temple-Raston reports that third person (described as an "accomplice") has been arrested. "

Around 5am, there was word on the scanner that someone had come downstairs at 89 Dexter (what the folks in the thread were calling "the bomb house" and saying was the home base for these guys) and closed the back door, which had been standing open. The police had assumed the building was empty until that point, as they had entered it earlier. Shortly afterward, a call came for a negotiator to be sent to 89 Dexter.

My guess is, this third guy was hiding inside.

It would be great if this part wasn't so "predictable".

This is the worst plan I've ever heard....

He has guns. And bombs. And possibly a suicide vest.

I've played video games with less well armed characters.

Grand_Moff_Joseph: Rwa2play: GoldSpider: WTF Indeed: What do you mean? The bombers are Caucasian.

True, and evidently they were able to acquire guns without a background check.

If true, wow the NRA's gonna see hell for that~!  So will those 45 Senators that voted down the background checks (watered down as it was).

Yep, I said something like that way back on thread #1.  If these guys used background check-less channels to get their weapons and ammo, the schadenfreude meter on the Senate is going to implode.

Ohhhhhhhh that's gonna be fun if that were true.

thisispete: Chechens? That came out of left field. Typically they go after Russians. What's their beef with the US?

Uhh, Chechen rebels are way more intense than even Al Qaeda. You know how insane Russia is about some things? Well, take that and apply it to militant Islam. In fact, Shamil Basayev (old Chechen rebel leader) said Al Qaeda was not violent enough for his tastes.

well, yesterday...

by "suicide vest" you mean "70 bullets from FBI/BPD/ATF"?

Well the dead guy had a suicide vest on, but he fell on some bullets before it went off....then his brother ran his ass over...unsure about when it actually went off...

This is so farking surreal and I hate it.

I hope we find out WHY these lunatic asshole poopstains did it.

2013-04-19 08:07:36 AM
Summary for those just starting their coffee:

Apparent convenience store robbery
MIT cop responds, these clowns shoot him multiple times
They carjack somebody
(gap in my knowledge)
At some point they're in an SUV that may have been a stolen police vehicle
They shoot at the cops and throw and/or plant grenades and/or IEDs
(No kidding, on the scanner there was something akin to "Shots fired! Shots fired! Grenade! Grenade! Grenade!", and there's a YouTube video out there with half a minute of sustained gunfire)
Running firefight
"Black Hat" shot multiple times, possibly run over, possibly injured by bomb strapped to chest
"White Hat" escapes
"Black Hat" taken to Beth Israel, dies
Code Black (usually means bomb or bomb threat) at area hospital, but NOT Beth Israel
"White Hat" spotted (twice?) but gets away, possibly in another firefight
Now at large.

/Oh, and at some point an innocent who was very much in the wrong place at the wrong time spent 20m face-down on the ground with a robot probing him, then he was stripped and put in the back of a police vehicle before being cleared.

And we've got cops, FBI, Homeland Security, National Guard, HumVees, and at one point something described as a "tank."
I know this sounds like I'm Michael-Bay-ing you, but really, seriously, I'm not.

Well, in all honesty, the cops thought these people were Chris Dorner, so...

www.pslweb.org

extras.mnginteractive.com

They also though a guy with a wallet in his hands was shooting at them.

...and countless other examples where cops weren't just 'wrong', but were very, very wrong.

So, now we're supposed to trust police that this time they have the right guys?

My wife works in Kendal Square near MIT. She got phone calls from her company starting at 5am to stay home and not come into work. We used to live in the very neighborhood in Watertown where the gun play was happening, but live north of there now. We keep recognizing all the houses and businesses on TV.

A lady exited the building and swat did enter the house at some point last night. I can't remember exactly when due to the huge volume of house numbers called. It did appear that they cleared that house though.

That call for negotiator was many hours ago and I have not heard anything more from the scanner about a negotiator on scene or anything about Dexter 89 at all.

That and they are still doing house by house searches, so I think if it was the suspect or an accomplice someone would have heard something. One of the boston news agencies actually had footage of swat entering the Dexter address.
