Long live Candle Stick!
2001-11-28 05:23:06 PM
Welcome to "This space for rent" stadium!
2001-11-28 05:24:14 PM
Thank God
2001-11-28 05:25:48 PM
how bout us farkers pitch in and make it FARK stadium...
2001-11-28 05:26:10 PM
Don't get your hopes up:
"The 49ers control the naming rights to the city-owned stadium. The team said it will pursue a corporate replacement for 3Com."
2001-11-28 05:26:55 PM
Yeah,I wouldn't want my good company name to be tarnished from naming a stadium after it that allows a team that cheats and manipulates the salary cap as much as the 9ers did to play in it.
2001-11-28 05:29:05 PM
Right next to it is the First Union Center

Slightly amusing.
2001-11-28 05:29:15 PM
I think they should rename it - "hey, remember when Montana played here? Park"
2001-11-28 05:29:27 PM
I got some ideas for a "corporate replacement":

Vivid Video Stadium
Trojan Stadium (or any condom manufacturer for that matter)
Depends Stadium
Wheaton Stadium (shiat, WW is close enough to a corporation)
anybody else care to come up with a few?
2001-11-28 05:31:48 PM
Too bad it won't go back to Candlestick. It'll just get turned into the Stadium or something
2001-11-28 05:33:40 PM
good. now if only PGE suddenly decided no longer to pay to have a local stadium named pge park my world will be complete
2001-11-28 05:35:12 PM
Michael Feldman (of "Whadd'ya Know?" fame) once suggested a name for Brewer's Stadium based on a local corporation: Kotex.
2001-11-28 05:36:22 PM
Actually, 3Com was one of the few who seem to take having the marketing rights to a stadium seriously. They were doing some very interesting things with making information available on demand wirelessly within the park.
2001-11-28 05:36:23 PM
YES!!! YES!!!! I hope it is a trend. Can you imagine Yankee Stadium being called Trump Realty Stadium??? Ack! It's bad enough in Denver with the farking Pepsi Center. Hey - let's go down to the Pepsi Center to watch the Denver Pop Tops play. The sooner the stadiums revert to their real names the better. A plague on their houses.
2001-11-28 05:36:38 PM
i want the name bought by a failing dot com that wont be around as long as the contract, so theyll be forced to keep calling it the name of a company no longer in business.
2001-11-28 05:38:19 PM
Could be worse, it coulda been named after a fast food place, like a certain amphitheatre was in my home town.
2001-11-28 05:48:11 PM
what does it matter...? it makes the town/city close to a million dollars a year.... you think they are gonna pass on that? Every stadium will have a corp name soon enough.
2001-11-28 05:56:20 PM

For those of us lucky enough to hail from the Bay Area, the park will always be Candlestick. It's located on Candlestick Point, fer cryin' out loud. For those outside CA, both the stadium and team name have strong ties to the state's Gold Rush history, a significant and often overlooked part of this country's history. And I love people like Slayerswine who whine about the Niners. Yeah, cheating got them a stadium and 5 SuperBowl trophies. Go ahead and suuport your own team, but shut the fark up.
2001-11-28 06:16:43 PM
as an employee of the 3Com Corporation, all i have to say is THANK GOD. this money might get me through the next 6 rounds of layoffs, and then i'll be 12 for 12. woo hoo!
2001-11-28 06:28:15 PM
43%, I know where you're coming from. If they bring the NBA Charlotte Hornets to Louisville, KFC's going to sponsor the stadium and it's probably going to be called the KFC Bucket.

"Welcome to the Bucket, home of the Louisville Crispy Strips."

2001-11-28 06:28:21 PM
c'mon gonzo, you work for cisco stop the badgering those poor bastards
2001-11-28 06:32:24 PM
snack master

you say that as if cisco is still a beacon of hope in the silicon swamp. c'mon, stop badgering those poor bastards.
2001-11-28 06:47:12 PM
Boogeyman X: KFC Bucket is funny!
Ours was Hardee's Walnut Creek Amphitheatre- it was an embarrassment- disk jockeys wouldnt say it. The contract eventually ran out and they got Alltel sponsor.

Now they need to name our arena in Raleigh. 2 yrs ago it looked like it was gonna be some dotcom for decent money, but the people in charge couldn't get their shiat together now the rights are almost worthless- i can hear Hardee's knocking again...or maybe Krispy Kreme.

Yay. Let's get rid of corporate sponsorship so tax dollars can go toward sports facilities.
2001-11-28 06:58:25 PM
I never called it 3Com. We always went met at the 'Stick an' fark the corporations, fark the corporations.
2001-11-28 06:58:50 PM
43%:Yeah, it's funny, but it's also sad because they're serioiusly considering that name. And our AAA baseball team plays in Louisville Slugger field (of course), and they're simply called the "Bats." Not much room for originality in this town.

Hmm, come to think of it, FARK is based in KY. Hey, if we flood the FARK Beer Fund, maybe the team and arena could be the Arena, Home of the Louisville Farkers. Motto: "w00t! Opponents Surrender! We're the shiat!"

Yes, 'tis been a long day.
2001-11-28 07:01:47 PM
How about:"We'll never catch the Ram's no matter how hard we try and besides, we are living our lives in complete denial just because we got lucky and won a couple of easy games" stadium?
2001-11-28 07:05:43 PM
Uptight: heh yeah I never called it 3com either. It was always "Candlestick Park" and it will always be "Candlestick Park" in my book
2001-11-28 07:23:25 PM
Here is the upshot of it all, a few more LOSING seasons and there will no longer be any farking Whiners to occupy the stadium anyway....., oh yea.., the Traders suck too
2001-11-28 07:30:20 PM
big peeler

"got lucky" and "won a couple of easy games" is the vocubulary of a raider fan. some other popular raider fan phrases include "fvckin h christ, it's my parole officer," "i sold the firebird and a couple kids for season tickets," and "what war?" avoid this kind of jibberjabber and disassociate yourself with this group.

seriously, though....
the rams are better than the niners. but you don't have to resort to base insults to convey your point. unless, of course, your worried about regular season records thus far and the fact that the rams' victory over san francisco was close at best.
2001-11-28 07:32:02 PM

grab a newspaper, open the sports section, and look up the nfl standings. if two losses constitutes a "LOSING season" then i appologize sincerly
2001-11-28 07:37:00 PM
How about "Ginos Pizza Rolls Field."
2001-11-28 07:46:41 PM
Dr. gonzo:

get a grip, the standings are quite irrelivant at the end of a season and all that is left is another loss, second best is a loser. They had their 15 minutes of fame, they will have a fairily decent season, then at the end.., they will choke...

that is all........I have spoken!
2001-11-28 07:47:29 PM
I love Pizza rolls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hell YEA!!
2001-11-28 07:55:03 PM

my most sincere appologies. second best is a loser? oh. damn. i obviously need to take those nifty, "get-em-tiger" quotes on the No Fear t-shirts a lil more seriously.
2001-11-28 07:57:34 PM
Worldwide Pants Park!
2001-11-28 08:28:00 PM

How about BigPeeler Sucks Park?
2001-11-28 08:28:57 PM
"The Rams are going to be 8-3, Thanks to Us!" Park
2001-11-28 08:40:30 PM
I'm glad I live in East Tennesssee, even though the politics suck, and 80% are hypocritical rednecks. I'm glad because the only stadiums here are at UT and they are owned by the state, they will never be named after huge corporate entities that don't give a crap.
2001-11-28 08:41:19 PM
Doesn't matter who pays to have a name on the stadium. Everyone still calls it Candlestick or The 'Stick.....
2001-11-28 08:41:51 PM
The NFC Championship game will be played in Soldiers Field,Chicago,Ill. Home of Da Bears !!!

They should just call Candlestick "Salary Cap Cheaters Stadium".
2001-11-28 08:44:19 PM
2001-11-28 09:07:25 PM
I always thought Candlestick Park was one of the best names ever. Dunno why, just thought it was catchy.
2001-11-28 09:16:32 PM
Name it after Jerry Rice FOR THE LOVE OF JEBUS!!!

Otherwise SF can suck me dry.
