I know how they feel. When I was a little kid Robert Kennedy's assassination pre-empted Shazam! I was annoyed. Why would anybody want to watch worried grown-ups mill around and blah-blah-blah because nobody has a clue what just happened?

You get used to it eventually. Fox has taught me to not care when mindless tripe pre-empts my shows and news coverage of the first few hours of a disaster or crime are always mindless tripe. Then the trolls and partisan loonies take over as the news people get a grip on things.

Well, yeah, people love Drew Carey.

2013-04-19 12:35:09 AM
That didn't happen here. I woke up around 11 and saw some woman yapping about dead people on CNN and I flipped right over to Drew Carey selling A. BRAND. NEW. FORD FOCUS! Luckily the woman lost and I took a shower. Still, didn't miss a thing.

I don't see why there was any anger. I mean, they ran a rerun today and scrolled across the bottom of the screen after every commercial break that the episode scheduled for today will air May 3.

Jesus, what more do they want?

They had more than a feeling that the service had gone on such a long time.

/geez, Boston died?

2013-04-19 04:03:31 AM
People are assholes everywhere.

/don't forget the asshole football fans who didn't like Obama interrupting their game back when Sandy Hook happened.

Tasteless? Yes.  Childish? You betcha.  Worthy of anything more than a disappointing head shake? Nope.

Also seems to be directed more at Obama than Boston.  No need to plaster these people's faces and names everywhere for being idiots.

This does happen sometimes by accident: the show gets preempted, you see the 'Special Report' graphics and you don't know yet why they're there, all you know is you lost Price Is Right. And then you find out what happened, and it may take a bit of time to sink in before you realize that Plinko doesn't matter much anymore that morning.

Happened with me when they reported Princess Di was killed. They cut into a MadTV sketch I was really getting into and it took a couple minutes for me to get it through my head that MadTV wasn't what I needed to be seeing at that moment.

oh! would you like some cries with your whaamburger?

Meh. Not the same with their pc male model. Old school TPIR is where it's at.

I do have to admit that schitt like this really pisses me off.  I really could not care less about these memorial services and would rather watch something else.  But, I learned a long time ago that the major TV channels are convinced that they will lose money if they do not show things like this.  Fortunately, I have in my possession a magical device that I can point at the TV and it will change the channels for me!  I also have this thing called a book, which I can pick up.  (Yes, my magical TV control device will also turn the TV off!)  So yeah, I will complain about it after the fact if the topic comes up, but generally speaking I will just shrug my shoulders and either change the channel or turn off the TV.

On a side note, I did see a bit of the Sandy Hook memorial, when all those people were singing "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen, and it was HILARIOUS!  Not only was the entire scene ridiculous, but it was as if whoever organized that bit had never actually listened to the song.  I bet they just figured, "Oh, 'Hallelujah.'  That will be a nice religious song for a memorial service."

Just like how people complain that their local news interrupts for severe weather that's not close to them.

2013-04-19 04:51:42 AM
It could have been worse,  They could have preempted a mindless soap opera.

Back in the 1980s a local TV station in the Buffalo, NY area started showing the Robotech animated series on TV, at 5:30 in the evening.  Pretty soon a bunch of parents complained that the show was inappropriate for children.  So, the TV station pulled the show, plus the show before it, and put Falcon Crest on in its place.

Yes there is. If more people are idiot-shamed, maybe they'll stop being such public idiots.

Half of those people seemed to be kidding.  One of them used #firstworldproblems, for heaven's sake.

As well they should be. There is no reason every local station has to simulcast  something that is already available on CSPAN, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and the Internet. Maybe run it on one local affiliate for people who don't have cable.

I'll be honest here, I completely understand these peoples frustration.  With the untold numbers of 24/7 news networks and the entire internet devoted to breaking news why they even bother interrupting scheduled TV anymore is kind of hard to understand. If there's a news worthy event happening I'll turn on a news channel.

Is there any such thing as a news channel?  They all have major issues, CNN, FNC, MSNBC etc.

Nowadays, stations have the ability to broadcast multiple streams.  Choose to have whatever on the primary stream and the other on the 2nd stream.

That way people will only biatch because they can't watch MeTV or something like that and you can safely ignore them.

Americans Republicans outraged that Boston memorial service interrupted "The Price Is Right"

FTFS

They all blamed Obama and think he has full control over the networks.

Won't anyone think of the atheists?  Forced to watch a religious service.

Most of those people were clearly joking. Does HuffPo not have a sarcasm filter?

And I said "God please answer me one question...
Why'd they have to interrupt the Simpsons just for this?"

I'm pissed NBC pre-empted Revolution for a "1 hour Boston Marathon Special" that had no new information what so ever, just so they could run ANOTHER hour of regular news coverage on it after that.

Fark you NBC, I wanted to know more about the power nanites.

Why does this always happen to me?

Well, the only people who watch "The Price is Right" are poor ghettorats or stoners anyway.

Richard Dawson must have been pissed.

So if the local ABC affiliate runs it, the local CBS affiliate should be banned from running it?

::eyeroll::

My favorite comment:

I know damned well CBS did not interrupt Price Is Right for Obama... he's taking our guns, now he's taking my shows

I'm just surprised that anyone under 70 watches TPIR.

2013-04-19 07:17:16 PM
Why couldn't they just broadcast both. Watch one and record the other with the hoppa!

It's like The Tonight Show of gameshows, isn't it?
