(GoFundMe)   Help a program that pairs at-risk teens with rescue horses fix their ranch truck (named Bessie) so we can get kids to horse shows this summer. Total repair bill is $2600, we still have $830 to go before we can spring it from the shop. DIT   (gofundme.com ) divider line

TL;DR: Read the link. :-)

Tolstoy: For the past three years, I've volunteered with Horses, Hope & Healing--a registered, 100% volunteer non-profit program that pairs at-risk youth with horses to help teach the kids responsibility, accountability, communication, and horsemanship skills.

About a year and a half ago, a volunteer used the ranch truck to haul kids and four horses on a trail ride, and she managed to in one day destroy a new clutch (only 6K miles on it.) Unfortunately, the clutch was out of warranty (it'd been more than a year since it was replaced.) Because of high hay prices and the cost of maintaining the program, we haven't been able to afford to get the truck fixed, and it's been sitting at the barn. Worse, in the time it was sitting there, thieves stole the batteries and a few parts that they could unbolt from the undercarriage.

Since Bessie broke, we've been relying on volunteers to try to get kids to horse shows, but it's been really hit or miss. We're trying to get her up and running ASAP, since horse show season has already started (and will really be in full swing in June once kids get out of school!)

The garage that is doing the work is donating $800 worth of labor, and I personally am kicking in another $800 (because what else am I going to do with my tax refund, right? Since charter school teachers make so much money...) So we're trying to come up with the balance so that we can spring the truck and start taking kids to more shows again!

Even $10 helps, and is greatly appreciated by all of us. Especially me--I love these kids, and I love this program. :-)

THANK YOU!!! :-D

Also, let me know if you have any questions about the program--I'm happy to answer them. :-)

That's awesome.  My mother in law does something similar with her minature horses, but for mentally challenged kids.

By awesome I meant your program... not that your truck is broked :)

Mini-horses are great. You can take them in a station wagon. They're smaller than labs, if heavier.

And the smaller they are, the more expensive!

I thought about that, but I was under the impression that that was what this tab was for. Oh well, I'll try it over there too. :)

I know you were joking, but FWIW, here's the copypasta from the website:

We are a registered 501(c)(3), and our EIN is 11-3814133.
