I was just going to say that.  Just because they're both dwarfs doesn't mean he can play him in a movie.  It'd be like having Ryan Gosling play Cheech Marin.

It would have to be Tommy Chong based on nationality.

Playboy: There's a video on YouTube called "Peter Dinklage Gets So Much Pussy" in which two guys talk about how much you've been getting laid since Game of Thrones. They estimate your sexual activity has increased 600 percent in the past few years. Does that sound about right?

Dinklage: It depends. By "pussy" do they mean actual pussy? Or is it a metaphor, like for gardening? Because if that's the case, then yes, I've been doing a lot of gardening lately. If they mean sex, they might be getting me confused with somebody else. But if pussy means wearing old-man sweaters and watering my herb garden, then absolutely, I'm getting so much pussy.

This is why I love this man.

Reminds me, I'm probably due for another viewing of "The Station Agent". Sure, a lot of the "Peter Dinklage is awesome" business is because people want to cut a dwarf some slack. But you can't watch that movie and not realize that Peter Dinklage is, in fact, awesome, regardless of his height.

Duh! It's a fantasy show, so everyone from the castle has a British accent, the peasants have vague Scottish/Irish accents, and the warrior/barbarian types speak in monosyllabic grunts. It's a rule, I think.

Agreed. I heard about it when it came out, finally saw it about 8 months later. Never before had a dwarf actor shown so much presence that you honestly came to a point where you didn't even see his height, just his humanity. That man is a damn fine actor.

I first became aware of him when he played a ruthless agent on the comedy, I'm With Her. He was enormously funny, and it's too bad the show only lasted one season, just because I never got to see him in that role again. The guy can definitely do comedy.

And to be honest, isn't most of that the actors native accents? I didn't quite get a "regional accent" thing from the series, apart from the usual "use some kind of brogue if you're lower class" rule.

/Not like the horrible, horrible pseudo-proto-faux Scandinavian accents on Vikings

This.

The British version of Death At a Funeral happened to cast him.  The American remake of the same movie cast him again, in the same role, specifically because he's awesome.  (Read Ebert's reviews of both versions, in that order.)

Actually, I think a lot of the latest love is because Tyrian is such a great character. He gets to stick it to all the other characters that we all hate. He is essentially the embodiment of the Fark attitude on GOT.

Pretty much this.

I think it's a combination of Dinklage's talent and skill on the one hand, and the availability of good roles on the other. He was fantastic in "The Station Agent," but only had that opportunity because someone created a character who was filled out and not just a dwarf. Warwick Davis has had a good career, but his major roles have been as characters defined more or less by their size; when you needed a dwarf actor with some talent he was the go-to guy, but the roles weren't well-rounded. They were overwhelmingly fantasy roles where characters of any size - even interesting ones like Willow - tend not to be too deeply developed. With "Station Agent" and "Game of Thrones," Dinklage has had opportunities no one else of his size has enjoyed, and because he's a wonderful actor, he also elevates the better kinds of roles that a little person has traditionally had available.

Yeah, it's pretty bad. What's worse is that what he seems to be aiming at doesn't sound anything like any accent anyone else his in-show family speaks with.

He really is a good actor, but six weeks of intensive dialect coaching would have done wonders. Or they could have just let him use his American accent and had everyone give him shiat for being a dwarf AND having a weird speech impediment. Actually, that would have been hilarious. Maybe the next time he gets hit on the head he can wake up with that "problem."

Let's just all be like Shae.  What kind of accents do they have in Game of Thrones?  Foreign.
