I can see Nike having a line of fighter endorsed rash guards, gloves or even mouth pieces but fighters haven't been allowed to wear shoes during a match for a long time.

Good for Jon Jones.  Not if it's good for Nike or UFC.  While MMA has grown exponentially the last 10 years, I'm not sure if people will buy the Bones Jones branded apparel and shoes because of his name.  If it looks cool and people buy it, does it help the UFC gain more fans?  Maybe.

I think it's good for the fighters.  If smaller businesses see this, they might try to sponsor other fighters as well.  Guys who aren't huge names, but have decent followings, like Matt Brown or Mark Hunt.  Sponsorship is where most fighters make their money and I'd like to see more sponsors than CondomDepot and Xyience.

Apparently Nike is also looking to sponsor a gay athlete.  My vote is for Liz Carmouche.

"Lizbos" and "Lizbros."  That cracked me up, too.

Timmy the Tumor: Nike could have negotiated a MUCH better deal after the end of this month when Sonnen beats him at talking before the fight, right before Jones destroys him and makes everyone realize that a guy who couldn't get it done at MW probably won't beat the dominant LHW champ.

Just a wild guess here, but he might wreck one of his expensive cars while drink-driving.

They often wear shoes while training (running, for example). I wonder what sport these are optimized for, "cross-training?"

He already did.  Put his Bentley into a pole while visiting his parents.

FYI, his older brother is Arthur Jones of the Ravens and his younger brother is Chandler Jones of the Patriots.  Can you imagine the three of them going at it while they were younger?

Definitely good for the fighters...especially if some of the lesser-known guys end up with better sponsors.

I own I Jon Jones tshirt..
I only wear it at the gym or to the bar when he's fighting. It's a walkout shirt of his.. nothing douchy looking, I don't think.

Not sure I'd own his shoes though.. but that reminds me to look up some good prices on Nike Shox..they are either $135.00 from a known site or $55.00 from a bootleg Chinese site..gosh!

I thought you were allowed to wear shoes in The Octagon, as long as you agree not to do any kicking. That rule might have been changed though, don't remember.

That's cool. I meant to watch the movie about him but never go around to it. He was a good fighter at one point, one of the more well rounded fighters in his weight class at the itme. I thought he was making a comeback, but I don't think I've seen him fight since I heard/read that.

No shoes anywhere near "The Octagon" please.

Or near James Westphal or Dr. Kenneth Noisewater for that matter.

What about masks to keep errant ball sacks from crossing their nose?

I figured Tapout or Affliction would have trademarked/patented those long ago.

Hamill was/is a tough guy, but I wouldn't call him well rounded. He only looked really competent standing against early Mark Munoz.

I heard Sonnen is a +700, not sure if that's in Vegas or just the offshores. If it's the Sonnen that showed up against Anderson Silva I'll take $50 on that.  If it's not... man I'm going to need to pull it together at the tables next weekend.

I'm not going to pretend I remember all of his fights and how they played out, but I remember seeing him in some good stand-up exhanges and some heavy high/head kicks. He fought well against Bisping, who I know is not well-liked/respected around here, and beat Jardine (who I've always said was highly overrated, but most seem to respect). I'll stand by my impression of Hamil being a well rounded fighter for his weight class at the time, but I'm not going to try to convince anyone to agree with me.

Admittedly it all has to go right for him to win but if anyone in the weight range can get inside of Jones' punching an not look like he went through a windshield at 80 mph, it's Sonnen.
