tricycleracer: What derogatory name could a Chinese restaurant put on a white person's bill?

Look, stop trying to find the white equivalent to every instance of racism. There isn't one. Fortunately for your grandparents, in the history of the world most other races haven't had the opportunity or the desire to oppress and label white people. When it did happen to white people it was at the hands of other people. Stop telling people how stupid they are for getting offended because YOU can't be offended with a racial slur. You all should be thankful, not angry.

You know, what that person did is wrong and racist and should probably be fired for being a massive douche... but can we get over ourselves as a society please. A million farking dollars for getting a little pissed off at a cashier?  Jesus tap-dancing Christ on a cracker!

I get the strong suspicion that the lawsuit only came about because CVS wasn't going to do shiat about their employee. CVS counseling? Seriously? That's gotta be just slightly more useless than high school counseling. If they don't want to take responsibility for their employee and fire him, they should most certainly be given a reason to not do that shiat again in the future. If they know that every time one of their employees says something racist to a customer it's going to cost them $1 million, they'll start firing the offenders on the spot like they should.

The only thing she should get is a gift card from CVS and an apology from the manager. There is no way in hell she should get a court settlement out of this

Yeah!

I mean, no one has really done anything about changing the underlying feelings of the people, but they sure have made it bad to say some stupid words!

As well they should. Your behavior isn't acceptable, you should be made to understand that. No amount of fake CVS counseling is going to change their attitude since it's based entirely on ignorance, wether it was passed down in the family or picked up from the environment around them. I'm not going to tolerate someone else's blatant racism just because their parents were pieces of shiat and they were too lazy and/or cowardly to educate themselves. I grew up in an incredibly racist town and let me tell you, it's no way to treat another human.

CSB time.  Back in the really old days around the time the world wide web was just starting to become popular, my Dad had an AOL account that I used.  AOL was actually half decent back then.  Well anyway, I was a huge fan of the Ultima game series, so chose a couple screen names, including my fark moniker and also Shamino with some number at the end of it.  Well a few months later, My dad got his bill from AOL, and the name on the account showed my dad's first name followed by the word "ultima" and his last name followed by the word "ultimas".  It was kind of funny to me as a teenager, but he was pissed and had me call them to tell them how unprofessional it was and such.  I called and they denied that anyone would ever do such a thing and tried to accuse me of being the one that did it and trying to hide it from my Dad.  I told off the bastard and changed it back myself, only to have it happen again a few months later.  Some people that work at these companies can be really immature.

Maybe if every time this happened we took the amount of money for whatever transaction it was out of the offending employee's salary to pay for the product so the customer gets it free and the stupid employee loses money.

CVS employee:  what's your name, for the ching chong receipt
customer:  Ching Chong Lee
CVS employee:  writes "CHING CHONG LEE" on receipt

This is exactly what I mean.  I've never had a cashier anywhere ask me for my name.  Radio Shack used to ask for my phone number, but that's about it.

As far as I know, when you place an order online, it prints out what you fill in online.  It's not like the employee is getting the info from the online photo form, and then filling out another store form to complete the transaction.  That would be incredibly inefficient and defeat the point of the technology.  I smell shenanigans.  biatch probably did it herself for a big payday.

Thought the same thing. I'd like to see the record of what she actually entered and how the online orders are processed.

Get a job at any fast food restaurant.  Have friend come in and put down the most offensive, racist thing imaginable on their receipt.  (believe me, I can come up with better than Ching Chong)  Have friend sue restaurant.  Get fired from a job you don't want.  Split the $$$.

Most likely the 'perp' is black. Contrary to most myths, the average Asian faces more daily type discriminations and prejudice from blacks and not whites.

Calling someone "ching chong" is inappropriate and one is right to be offended.
Asking for $1M is equally inappropriate and offense-worthy.

a $500 gift card and a personally written letter from the manager is appropriate. however the employee is disciplined is up to the company.

Oh, I 100% agree.

However, being Asian and having enjoyed a number of taunts while growing up, I would say the appropriate remedy would be to allow the woman one try at punching the responsible cashier as hard as possible.

Or a single kick to the groin, if the cashier is male.

How hard is it to simply ask somebody for their name?  I do it with every single customer I talk to, and I talk to hundreds of people a day.  I'm extremely introverted and I can ask names without falling over in fear.
