Colour_out_of_Space: FormlessOne: exick: Why the fark would a ghost be wearing clothes?

The bigger question is "why the fark would a ghost be hanging around in Texas?"

Maybe they are all in love with dying.

Oh, and the ghost is Party Pete:

Yeahhhhh, sorry. I'm not going to trust any digital photo of an extraordinary phenomenon, no matter how impressive. Not when there is a freaking iPhone app to 'shop ghosts into photos.

Even film can't really be trusted unless a special tamper-proof camera is used, and even that hasn't stopped hoaxers before. Basically I'm not going to believe it unless I see it with my own two eyes--and even then I'm going to be looking for the guy in the gorilla suit.

About 700 BCE, a Chinese philosopher made fun of the idea of ghosts by asking the following question: Do clothes have souls?

He noted that ghosts almost always appear to be clothed as they lived, so he wondered where they get their duds.

Personally, I am surprised that ghosts exist. I am even more surprised that they wear leisure suits.

Because isn't it a well-know fact that

POLYESTER NEVER DIES.

Even if the wise old Chinese skeptic is wrong and ghosts do wear clothes, why in the name of Hell would they wear leisure suits.

Whoops! Answered my own question.

IN HELL, THERE IS NOTHING BUT LEISURE WEAR.

Can I get that on a T-shirt?

Or maybe the whole chain of thought:

Premise:  Ghosts wear leisure suits....

Premise:   ... But polyester never dies.

Conclusion: In Hell, there is nothing but leisure suits.

Will that fit on a X-large t-shirt?

Psycat: Bravo Two: Wasilla Hillbilly: You know, I wish ghosts and other types of supernatural entities existed. It would add depth to our existence and a chance for a form of life beyond the physical. However, morans gonna moran.

I assume two things to be true:

1. Matter (and energy) can neither be created nor destroyed, only change form.
2. Scientists agree that even if an object is destroyed, information about that object is maintained.

Any citations or links to support #2?  By *real* scientists and not Billy Murray chasing after the Sta-Puft mascot?

Even if #2 was true, why would it be relevant to someone dying - after you die the body, an object, is still there and has not been destroyed, it will just no longer be repaired as it breaks down. Your consciousness is gone from it (not existing any more, or being elsewhere, whichever way you go on that issue), but your conciousness is not an object, and thus #2 has no comment on anything about it.

AdolfOliverPanties: Can digital cameras have double exposures?

Good question. Let's ask Google.

http://www.flickr.com/groups/double_exposure/discuss/721576040590467 16 /

http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-take-double-exposures-u si ng-your-digital-sl.html

I didn't look at a lot of hits, but the consensus seems to be 1) that Digital cameras do not take double exposures and that 2) it is really easy to make double exposures with some, many or all models of digital camera.

Thanks Google! You're about as consistent as the conspiracist community.

Digital Cameras say:   We can do the possible instantly. The impossible takes us a few seconds longer.

I would be a lot more convinced of an afterlife if I had any memory or sense of ever having a beforelife.

However, I have to take issue with people who have a problem with ghosts wearing clothes.  Seems silly to not believe in something while at the same time trying to define the rules for that very thing's existence.

"Why can't psychics get full information from ghosts?  Dead people should be able to just tell these so-called psychics facts to prove their existence instead of this vague information!!"

Well, if you don't believe these things exist, why are you trying to say how they have to be and behave if they do?

I believe, but cannot substantiate, that when we die, whatever makes us, us (be that an electric charge or sum of bits in particles), still lingers even if our physical presence no longer does.

However, I also personally believe that I'll keep an open mind and not discount the possibility until we can conclusively prove a negative. Hell, we can't conclusively prove the existence of dark matter and particles of gravity, but people are still hunting for them.

I wont argue that, but the clothes!  Why would the clothes be there?

letrole: Ghosts do exist, but they are not the dead. Rather, they are evil spirits who exploit people's superstition. The same is true for dreams and so forth about loved ones who've died recently.

There is nothing in Scripture that even remotely supports the idea of the soul remaining on Earth after the death of the body. While the eventual destination of the soul is up for debate, it is safe to say that ghosts are not the soul/spirit/mind of the departed.

Not believing in ghosts is a religion.
