I was going to post something snarky, then I read the article. I didn't realize so many people were injured! Why were there this many hanging around next to a poop factory?!

Ok guys this is Texas.  This is the state that when we had fires burning their way across the state the Texas media almost in unison excitedly exclaimed "the fires are spreading across the brush and trees almost like a wildfire".
Dont expect a lot from them.

To be fair, you can safely film tornadoes if you know what your doing.

Because in Texas they put an explosive toxic chemical facility right next to a school and an old folks home.

Just like in the third world.

Zoning - how does it work?

Whats Alex Jones take on all this?

2013-04-18 11:40:19 AM
Not really defending the comment, but 9/11 has been on my mind a bit more recently because of the bombing in Boston...maybe it was just the first thing the dope could think of. What they saw on television, no doubt.

I guess if they had said "it looked like a war zone" nobody would have a problem, right?

The one I wait for is: "It's like a war zone."

Actually, they said Fertilizer. Thank you for playing. If you open your fists and hold your hands palm up, you can get more. Just don't put it in your mouth. Wash your hands before you go back to your adultery.

opiumpoopy: Zoning - how does it work?

In towns like West, not very well. I drive through it all the time and the best way to describe it, and all the towns like it that dot 35 South, is "rural sprawl". They're not suburbs because they don't have an urb to sub, but they're not small towns anymore, either.

It would be better to compare it to the 1947 Texas City Disaster

Yeah, but this was an accident. 9/11 was a consipracy perpatrated by the goverment of multiple countries.

Totally different.

Not a big difference this makes I know but....The fertilizer plant was there decades before the town grew around it, its the reason there is a town full of Czech immigrants (and great food) all packed in there.  In order to get further away from the plant the local government would have had to buy land from the local ranchers, which can get expensive, and that would have been long long ago.

I always liked West, its a good break on the long I35 trips.  Good food.

Im pretty sure the chemical plant was there first and they built the school and old folks home next to it rather than the other way around

I wonder what oppressive government safety regulation was scrapped that had nothing to do with this.

SN1987a goes boom: To be fair, you can safely film tornadoes if you know what your doing.

/from Kansas,

Used to be... yeah.

Now there are so many people out there that just BEING there is either is hindering to people trying to leave the area, or to first responders trying to get in.

I'm a trained spotter, and yeah.. I chased back in the day (mid 90's) but even then... there are dozens of dangers out there that are not the tornado itself that chasers don't think about. Lightning (Almost my undoing), HUGE hail, flash floods, road food, and just being distracted by what is in front you... then suddenly being blinded by dust and debris coming from behind you in a feeder band while trying to drive.

Any one of those things can kill you dead just as fast as the tornado can.

Anyways... I still don't blame the guy. I might well have done the same thing... thinking I was safe across the field. Sure, it was stupid, but not criminally so, and no more stupid than what 1/2 the population of any plains state does every May

Well grapefruit sized hail aint no joke, it will leave fist sized holes in a metal tool shed(granted its thinner than a car)

wouldn't comparing it to OKC bombing be more accurate?
