pjbreeze: I doubt it was a thriller.

If you enjoy great pitching, it was a good game to watch. Scherzer, 12 strikeouts and one walk in 8 innings. Hernandez, 12 strikeouts and no walks in 8 innings.

I turned off the game when Montero threw to 3rd and didn't get the out. I like watching Felix pitch, I hate watching the Mariner's "offense".

An that marks the last time "Mariners" and "thriller" will be used in the same sentence this year.

The Tigers stuck out 21 times in that game.  They also set a major-league record for striking out 37 times in the last two games.  And they won both games.

And they're playing again in a couple hours. Some of the starters are going to be pooped.

Nah, Felix gets a few more starts and might flirt with perfect games or no-hitters.

/imagine if Felix got to pitch against the Mariners' lineup!

OTOH, we got the winning run on base with less than 2 outs THREE farkING TIMES.

So we got that going for us, which is nice?

Scherzer's 12 Ks almost makes up for the fact my batters went 5-31.

Also, will the weather gods lay off Denver for a day? My team is not being helped when Buck, Murphy, and CarGo are shoveling snow.

Two golden sombreros and a platinum sombrero for Prince Fielder, who K'd 5 times.

2013-04-18 12:54:25 PM
At least the Tigers have Verlander going today so the bullpen should be able to get a nice rest.

PS: Prince Fielder is FAT! Dude looks like a basketball.

Might feed into dwm's argument that the value of a strikeout for offense and defense is negligible or at least more so than people think.

Since being named Player of the Week, he's 0-11 with 9 strikeouts.

/Masterson shiat the bed on me last night - he's been my best pitcher in this autodrafted monstrosity of a league.  Maybe you can pull it off.

Honestly, I think that both sides are taking the argument too simply.  There are situations where a strikeout is worse than other types of outs, particularly with a runner on third with less than two outs.  If you fly out or ground out, there's a good chance the guy on third comes home.  With a strikeout, they're stuck.  Also, a strike out on a high pitch with runners in motion can be more problematic than another type of out.  That said, the statistical alignment of strikeouts with power hitting is undeniable.

Monstrosity in a good way? Got to say I'm loving the activity in this league.

Had Fielder's throw been better, Pena would have had time to set himself for the collision or maybe even avoid it altogether.

Yeah, but when its runner-on-catcher, isn't that sorta fair game?  I mean there's no other baseman that you're allowed to barrel into like that.  One of the quirks of baseball.

Yeah, I guess it's ok. It wound up in Avila's chin, so i'm guessing that's why he was down for a bit.
