King Arthur: The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. That is why I am your king.

Look, all heroism aside (and really, all he did was comfort her in the tent once she had already been carried to safety and was being worked on by medics), he seriously looks like a douche in this picture. Every element of this, from the posture to the half-tucked in t-shirt to the Saints cap to the fact that he's at the Cambridgeside Galleria, screams douche.

I was going to say no, but when you add in the "god has a plan for me" crap and the recovering from alcoholism I find it hard to disagree with you. It all adds up...

He really did nothing heroic, or at least did not put himself in the face of danger. He's really nothing more then an opportunist. As a result, he will reap the rewards from this woman.

My hats off to him.

They're Made-for-TV, is what. They must unite and fall in love to a full orchestra soundtrack, then he'll help her with rehabilitating her leg, then, under the strain of the publicity he'll break his sobriety and become an angry, morose drunk. His dead Marine buddies will appear to him in a vision and tell him she's the one for him, don't blow his combat survival, to stay sober and marry her for their sake. Then they'll meet at some formal press junket, her in that Hot Little Number she's wearing in that three-way picture from the Daily Mail, and him in his USMC dress uniform. They'll see each other with a beauty they'd previously recognized and despite the fact that the only thing they have in common is the Boston Marathon Bombing, they'll run together and embrace in front of an applauding press corps. Even the cynical NY reporters who think the whole thing's a sham will be moved and will weep and grin as the camera pans the crowd. And the alcoholic newspaper editor will be inspired to get sober and reunite with his estranged wife.

It'll be gold.

Jesus, yet another opportunity to abuse the word "hero"... Earlier I saw a story calling the guy who pushed the wheelchair in "picture 8" a "hero". Yeah, these people helped, and yeah, nobody knew if there were more bombs, but if you can get the Hero label for pushing a wheelchair, I'm sure I'm looking at sainthood before I die just for taking care of ny grandmother for the last 9 months of her life.

Thank you for also noticing that and realizing that he really didn't do anything great here. I did not read that he was injured in the attack, so he should have been out there helping tend to the people who were injured as he would have some basic first aid training due to being a veteran. Instead he was talking to an attractive woman in the hope of using the situation to achieve some sexual interaction with her. The sad thing is that she will likely end up having sexual intercourse with him many times over the course of their dating, be treated like an object and then break up with him which will instill some resentment in her towards men that will manifest itself in her future relationships.

Glad it wasn't just me. I clicked the link to see if it was the Towson grad student, saw the pic, instinctively said "man, what a douchebag this guy is," and then felt bad.

I was there too.

But he looked much less douchy in the other pictures of him actually helping.

There were zero pictures of him actually helping. It was someone else that carried her to safety. He was just in the tent when she got there.

Listen, Mikey. Rushing around, pushing a wheelchair with a guy with broken tibias left for legs while holding his artery closed with your hands when you DON'T KNOW IF THERE ARE MORE BOMBS pretty much sounds heroic to me. Attending to your dying grandmother was commendable and no picnic, I'm sure, but were you ever in danger of being blown up while you did it?

Apparently, to her, she thinks he did a lot more than you to comfort her in her time of need and keep her from going hysterical.   Saying the right thing to a woman at the appropriate time often results in a BJ or more..
