LOLNO

I feel for you, Boston, I really do, but it'd take a Hiroshima-level tragedy to get me to pull for one of your teams again, especially after that sh*t you sons of b*tches pulled in the 2007 ALCS.

2013-04-18 02:19:42 AM
So the Suns will finally win?

2013-04-18 04:44:44 AM
Basketball is so stupid.  The better team usually wins.  Why can't basketball be a reflection of my life, where circumstance swings wildly on chance occurrence and obfuscates my mediocre existence?  Why can't basketball be more like football?

2013-04-18 08:35:30 AM
So sue me, but I'm on the Heat bandwagon.

2013-04-18 09:21:00 AM
I'd root for Boston against the Heat, but that's about it.

2013-04-18 10:17:31 AM
Nope.  Can't do it.  The NBA has been dead to me since Ernie D and the Braves left Buffalo.  Can't pull for the Bruins or Patriots either due to Sabres and Bills loyalties.  Red Sox?  Maybe.

2013-04-18 10:23:45 AM
What does that make the Knicks now, then?  Canada's team??

Somebody better tell NY...

/and the Heat are Cuba's team

2013-04-18 10:24:28 AM
My sympathy is for the people of Boston, particularly those directly affected by the bombing.  It's a terrible tragedy and Boston is a wonderful city.

However, no, I am not rooting for the Celtics, Bruins or Red Sox.

2013-04-18 10:29:34 AM
Again...Brooklyn got boned by this (unless for some reason I'm wrong about what the playoff seeding is based on when it comes to ties).

Because Indy/Boston got canceled, Brooklyn was guaranteed to finish at least a half-game behind Indy for the 3 seed. The 4 seed means that you have to play Chicago in the first round, and if you get through that, you get Miami in Round 2.

If the Pacers lost to Boston...Brooklyn beat the Pacers 3-0 in the regular-season series, so they'd be the 3 seed, right?

"America's Team" Aww Hell no! I don't want the stink of Romo on the Cs.

I'd love to see them make a run at it but they'll be lucky to make it past the Nicks.
Jeff Green to rescue?

It was pretty fun to watch David Stern orgasm on TV when 60 Minutes asked him about the NBA going to China and becoming a global brand. Dude is such a greedy little sh*t.

Pretty obviously as to why.

Kinda like Louisville became America's team after Kevin Ware broke his leg.

2013-04-18 10:43:05 AM
Nah.

2013-04-18 10:45:56 AM
As I've been reprimanded, I checked on the NBA tiebreaking procedures. Yeah, apparently winning your sh*tty division is more important than head-to-head record.

Gah they get it right with having teams with better records being able to have HC over division champs, then they screw it up by making division-winning the top tiebreaker.

2013-04-18 10:46:15 AM
Nope.  I don't care for the Celtics.
To me, Garnett will always be a T-wolf.  That was a lousy trade for Minnesota.

Conversely, I am one of the few Nuggets fans that liked how C Anthony handled his trade to NY.  He basically said, "My wife wants us in NY/NJ, I'm going to NY, but I'll play my heart out until I'm traded".  And that went on for months.  I respect that.

2013-04-18 10:48:51 AM
No.  No, no, no, and fark you, sports media.  You tried to flog that whole "patriotic duty to root for the Yankees" crap in 2001 and you sucked back then.  Don't suck again.  What happened at the Boston Marathon isn't about the Celtics.  You know those trite reminders that basketball is "just a game"?  Stick with that.  Those full-page "Chicago Red Sox" ads are an attempt to make this thing all about you.  Just don't.

Broktun: Kinda like Louisville became America's team after Kevin Ware broke his leg.

No, not at all, because the story of Ware's broken leg was actually about Louisville basketball.

I guess that's only in the event of a tie, but it at least makes more sense than the NHL, which automatically grants the top 3 seeds to division winners, despite the fact that there are 5 teams with as many or more points than the Southeast Division leader.

Yeah, someone mentioned that earlier and I knew that wasn't the case. So why should it be in the case of a tie? If anything, it should default to the team that WASN'T a division winner because then there's a really good team in their division, which makes it a little harder to get wins.

You must be talking about the Memphis/LA Clippers scenario.  As this only plays out in the the 4-5 seedings.

They're only America's team until the next gun massacre, terrorism event, or kidnapped white girl.  Then we'll all remember how much we hate Boston.

I can feel sympathy for the people of Boston while maintaining a blind, irrational hatred of their sports teams.

in Ken Burns' "the 10th Inning" baseball thing (the 2010-ish followup to his 1994ish PBS miniseries), he covered 9/11's effect on baseball with footage/pictures of Bush throwing out the first pitch, the "FDNY" hats, and so on, and then almost as an asterisk, "and then the Yankees were defeated by game 7 by the Diamondbacks".

No respect.  No respect, I tell ya.  No respect.

I'll give you some, without an enormous bit of baseball good fortune (and horrible managing by Bob Brenly), the D'backs win that series in 5.

That being said, when that series was over, I didn't really have enough emotion left to be upset by the outcome.

I'm a Boston fan (grew up in Mass).. and I don't want bandwagon sympathy fans.. not at all.
I don't ever recall bandwagon NY sports fans after the towers went down? DC sports fans fro the Pentagon being hit?

This is ridiculous.. and please for the love of Pete.. DO NOT NOT NOT NOT drag this tragedy on like the NFL did with Katrina and that absolute horseshiat.
This year.. mention it.. update.. sure.
but that's it.

Yanks never should have been there. Jeremy Giambi was safe.

Yeah, momentary lapse of reason.   You see, I thought it was going to be the Spurs/Rockets  in the first round.    I think the Spurs were blessed with the Lakers.   The Lakers will come down off their Kobe injury high and Pop's game plan will win the series.   George Karl in the next round.   Not so much.   But George is a Spur, so It's a win either way.  lol

You don't have to get over it if you don't want to.  I'll point out, though, that Giambi would only have been the tying run had he been safe.

Which he wasn't.

However, if they do beat the Knicks, I'll root for them.

Root all you want America. Still not getting past the second round.

Don't you mean the Nuggets are Americas team? Because, you know, they're awesome and everything?

Never forget that the Columbine Massacre was a scant 14 years ago, and the anniversary falls on the opening day of playoffs! Surely that must mean something to the masses.

In summation, Go Nuggets and Go Heat! And no one likes Boston sports.

I don't remember any horrible managing but whatever.

if you are referring to putting BK Kim back in there after the Game 4 homer, Kim had been dominant that season.  while in retrospect, the storyline is, "ZOMG HE GAVE UP TWO GAME WINNING HRS BACK TO BACK", you have to ride your best reliever and that was Kim.

i remember the second one vividly.  i was so mad i was calm.  i remember sitting there thinking, "no freaking way that just happened.  is this groundhog godamn day?"

/and then I also got crazy ass drunk the night of Game 6, when the Snakes dropped what, 8 runs on you by the 3rd inning?

ha.

we watched the game at a sports bar, i was "overserved".  that night, we had a halloween party at a friend's.  at home, i had some celebratory suds.  at teh party, i got nutty and then, my host gave me something that tasted like cold death which i think was a tequila/jaeger mix and then i remember nothing.  except driving home (clarify that, my wife drove home and she was sober as a judge), and getting home and thining, "i was not smart tongith BLEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR) in the parking lot.

the next day - game 7 - i hated life.  one of the all time worst ones.  idiot.  oh college.  how i don't miss you!
