I dunno, once you get past a certain percentage it doesn't even taste like beer anymore.

FTA: "the 120 Minute IPA finds the beer dry-hopped continuously for two hours during the boil, and then dry hopped every day for the next month"

Dry hopping beer during the boil? For fux sake... Does anyone know how to write a factual, proofed article these days?

A bunch of folks got 1 oz pours of the Utopia at a Fark party in Brooklyn so I was able to try it.  Quite tasty, but it tasted more like a cognac than a beer.

As for many of the other high-octane brews, I REALLY don't like barley wines.

Boilermaker ftw, beer of your choosing and a shot of whiskey.

This is a fairly high alcohol beer (9%) that tastes pretty damn wonderful.

Hrm. I'm a fan of a lot of beers that push the 8-9% mark, but past that...just doesn't seem like a pleasant drink to me. That said, I'd certainly try many/most of these just because I'll drink anything once.

I've tried a few of the higher alcohol content beers and they've all tasted yucky; I can't remember one that tasted good. It seems like if you're intent on getting buzzed, drink a distilled spirit for that. Drink beer because that beer tastes good (and will get you a bit buzzed).

I thought that, over a certain ABV, beer is called barley wine.

I never look at ABV.  Ultimately, taste and mouthfeel (I'm ashamed of typing that, but I don't know what else to call it) are what matters.

I think Molson XXX is a tasty summer high alcohol beer.

Chocolate Rain is so good you could get accidentally poisoned by it. Can't taste that ABV at all.
Brew Dog's Tactical Nuclear Penguin tastes like what I imagine a well-seasoned barbecue grill tastes like. Their Sink the Bismarck isn't much more palatable. But Chocolate Rain? Omg shut up and take my money.

Just get a good bottle of scotch and be done with it.

I like my beer to taste like beer, at 20%+ abv doesn't sound very good.

My favorite higher ABV beers are Founders KBS and Goose Island BCBS.

Seriously.  I once had a Samuel Adams Triple Bock and thought I was drinking port.
