I'm more upset at a corporate-named zoo than I am by the bad grammar.

I cannot be upset by a zoo that is successfully raising all these endangered animals.

Wife and I are still disappointed that they are going to end the African Painted Dogs exhibit, it was one of our favorites. I definitely understand it and hopefully they find good zoos to send them too, just saddened by the whole thing.

The cross-species copulation isn't what concerns me, it's the zoo's utter inability to provide us with an edible dolphin-dog cross-breed.

It's not actually dahtahn. I used to work there, but can't remember where exactly it was, even though I could drive there from Plum with my eyes closed.

Sometimes I sits and thinks, and sometimes I jess sits.

This is the punchline from a famous XIXth Century PUNCH cartoon of a Lady Bountiful visiting the local poor to inquire of their needs and health. She is very solicitous of an Old Man who is illiterate and unable to walk, who spends his time in a chair by the hearth. This is his reply to her question about how he can possibly pass his time without those two vital English (high and middle class) activities of reading and walking.

It's one of the best-known cartoons from a magazine that published hundreds of thousands of them over the period 1841 to 1995. Others include the Curate's Egg and the Dropping of the Pilot. One of these became a popular expression and the other a main-stay of cartoonists commenting on the fall or retirement of Senior Statesman.

I leave you to imagine the Dropping of Maggie T. according to your own political preferences and lights.

Forget the offspring. I'd pay good money to see the two of them getting it on. That must have been one hell of a roll in the hay.

hoyt clagwell: I'm more upset at a corporate-named zoo than I am by the bad grammar.

The zoo is called the Pittsburgh Zoo. At one time is was the Highland Park Zoo. PPG sponsored the building of the gazzilion dollar aquarium and got its name on it. Private money built the Pittsburgh Zoo, from it's inception through every upgrade. In 1994, the Pittsburgh Zoo became a non-profit organization, owned and operated by the Zoological Society of Pittsburgh.
It the '70s my mother worked as a volunteer at the Children's Zoo. We raised several of the animals that were in its petting zoo at the time. Walking a baby goat on a leash in my neighborhood was hilariously fun.

Glad I got the zoo name wrong, but still disturbed that a corporation got their name wedged in there on the aquarium part.  I'm from Chicago and I still drive by Commiskey Park (or Sox Park) and see the Sears Tower surrounded by fog.  Corporations who own and build a building, fine.  Otherwise it's just more advertising.

Anybody see the Petrillo Music Shell lately?
