FlashHarry: so the GOP loses yet another sure senate seat?

House seat. He was running in a special election against Stephen Colbert's sister for a House seat.

Bigger Leftist Intarweb Schlong: And didn't this dillweed marry his mistress? Why is he skulking around his ex-wife's house?

Playing armchair psychologist, I can come up with two reasons:

1. He was hoping to dig up some dirt on the Mrs. that he could leverage into a motion to modify the terms of the divorce (e.g. to cut back on alimony or child support, or to talk the kids into asking for more visitation/custody with him).

2. He's got a psychological hangup that makes him desperately want what he can't have. When he's married to wifey, he wants Miss Argentina. Now that he has Miss Argentina, he wants to try and charm his way back into wifey's life. Buyer's remorse is behind an awful lot of serial philandering.

Lando Lincoln: Republicans said they were caught off guard by news of Jenny Sanford's complaint. They worry other damaging revelations about Mark Sanford's personal life that they aren't aware of could come out in the coming weeks.

Translation: they are now aware of other things are likely to come out in the coming weeks and aren't going to waste another dime on this guy.

yeah the ex wife probably has more dirty laundry to air to sink his arse.

Muta: Elegy: He's probably still going to coast to a win; the district he's running is strongly republican, IIRC.

Don't Republicans have strong feeling about family values?  His cheating on his wife would fly in the face of those values.

Don't Republicans favor strong law-and-order candidates?  Going against a restraining order would be illegal and not consistent with a law-and-order kinda guy.

Republicans care about STICKING IT TO LIBS and nothing else, and damn the consequences.

"I will support sending a federal constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman to the states for ratification ... I also pledge to uphold the institution of marriage through personal fidelity to my spouse and respect for the marital bonds of others."

I am sure he is 100% behind the Defense of Marriage Bill, because we all know that it is Gays that destroy heterosexual marriage and not say an adulterous, philandering, douche-wad who can't even follow a simple court order to stay away from the home of the woman he cheated, lied too, and broke up the home of 4 their four children.

Who am I kidding this is SC and this douche-wad would be right at home in the Republican House.

"Mark Sanford has proven he knows what it takes to win elections...."

However, he has also proven incapable of doing what it takes

/or not doing, as the case may be
