Yanks_RSJ: Dogfacedgod: Am I the only one sickened by this overly "we shall overcome/we're with youuuuu" nonsense?.

I don't think I'd phrase it that way, but I definitely don't care for the tone of some of the coverage, which seems to want to tell everyone how to feel at every possible moment.

Personally, I don't need to be told that we're all going to be alright an hour after some maniac sets off two pressure cookers loaded with shrapnel in a crowded area.

And I find gestures like this to be awfully hollow.  There are a number of ways to support Boston that are actually helpful.

I can't stomach the hero worship coverage where they spend half the time apologizing for not having more violence porn, because those darn rescue workers saved everyone.  Remember, you should be really scared.  Scared and comforted.  Comforted and inspired, but mostly scared.  Scared and defiant, but also, scared.

ChrisDe: sarajlewis83: Should a terrorist attack ever befall the city of Detroit , you'll all be hearing "Don't Stop Believing" at sporting events like it's 2007 all over again.

You mean if Windsor, Canada is ever attacked.

I can't stand that song. The fact that South Detroooooiiiiiiiit doesn't exist only makes it worse.

Continuing on in our inane sporting event musical choices, they play "Sweet Home Alabama" at Jacksonville Jaguars games. I know Skynyrd is from Jax, but I swear.....

No.  When I saw that picture of the "NY hearts Boston" (or whatever) projected onto the building in NYC, my first thought was "Wow.  Does it really have to be all about you, New York?"  Send cops, send resources, send aid.  Platitudes on the sides of buildings doesn't help.

They did/are doing those things.

rickythepenguin: Killer Cars: We might as well create a list of relatively under-appreciated "Boston" songs that wouldn't make me sick to my stomach if played anywhere.

I would LOVE to hear New Edition's "Cool It Now" at a game, and no, I'm not kidding.

Yanks_RSJ, Killer Cars, Primitive Screwhead, IAmRight,
If I love the girl, who cares who ya like?

/apologies to Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky and Mike.

1. Yes, "Cool It Now" would be fun stadium song
2. I do believe that's the first time I've ever been referenced in song

Glad you didnt get bombed.

I have a dumb question though. Why or how did sweet caroline become the Red Sox anthem?

Should they play "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" instead?

ha.  my wife asked me the same question this morning.  i found a 2005 article that basically says, "it just did".

in i think 1996, some gal that worked at Fenway would play it, "after having heard it played at other stadiums", but she would only play it on a hunch.  if she thought the Sox would win, she'd play it in the later innings.  but she wouldn't always play it.

then, when the team's new ownership took over, someone told her to play it between the 7th and 9th innings, which is when it became a regular occurence.

so the answer is basically, "the real reason is there was no real reason, until the team told this chick to start playing it at every game."

The title track to that album would be extremely relevant, too.

No Theme from Banacek?

Went to the Blues/Canucks game. Found it painfully obviously inappropriate to sing about "bombs bursting in air." It was especially noticeable right after O Canada. Why can't we change the anthem to America, the Beautiful?

someone is sounding a little traitorish.  why do you hate america?  if anything we should just play both as the anthem.  more patriotism is always better.  and play it again between periods/innings/quarters.

This.

Saw Neil last summer in Cleveland, second row.  I hope I'm ALIVE at 71, much less that energetic.

They should play RUN DMC's version of "Walk this Way" in support of the victims who lost a leg or two in the bombings. It would also improve race relations.
