Lumpmoose: In the cases of acid rain, the hole in the ozone layer and Y2K, they weren't "forgotten" as much as they were "fixed". Acid rain was fixed in the US from tighter environmental regulations, the hole in the ozone layer is fixing itself after unprecedented international cooperation to eliminate CFCs and the Y2K bug was fixed after millions of dollars and man-hours spent fixing code. The problems didn't just go away nor were they over-hyped. We fixed them and we shouldn't forget that because we can do it again.
