This man is a true hero. He deserves a hero's funeral pyre. He deserves it today. It's okay if he's not dead yet. In fact it's preferable. The chick can light the kindling.

There should be some criminal charges there as well.

Reminds me of the outbreak of HIV that hit the wives of Tokyo businessmen after a sex tourism spree several years ago. When questioned by heathcare workers the businessmen replied that they knew they had contracted HIV but they continued having unprotected sex with their wives, the mothers of their children, because their wives would have gotten suspicious if they used condoms.

FTA:Mr Whitbread said Zaburoni also admitted in a police interview that he obtained an Australian visa in 2005 by convincing a Zimbabwean friend to pass a mandatory Department of Immigration blood test on his behalf.

He knew enough to get someone to fake a blood test for him. Plus, he's been in Australia for over 7 years, you'd think he'd absorb some of the realities of the disease by then, specifically since he knew he had it.

I go with a slightly different method. When a guy is interested and I can't stand him, I wear two watches. When he inevitably asks about them, I look at him straight in the eye and say "One is to tell the time, the other is my biological clock. TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK."

I'm not saying that it was okay for him to lie/keep silent about it, just that it isn't strange for him to have weird ideas about HIV. Having someone do the blood test for proofs nothing except that he read the immigration information and knew, that being sick would sink his chances of getting out of Africa.

So once again: he is an ass and deserves everything they can pin on him. Not defending his actions, just offering an explanation for his idea that HIV can go away by itself.

A teenage patient from a nearby native village once asked me how much blood she'd have to lose to get rid of HIV if she ever got it.  After I made a confused fishy face for a few seconds I asked her what made her think that she could cure HIV that way.  She told me that her village elders told all the kids that if they get HIV or AIDS they can just cut themselves and bleed the disease out.  If misinformation like this happens in the US I can only imagine it would be much, much worse in Africa.

Why all the hate towards the woman for falling pregnant? We know enough about HIV now to minimize the likelihood of transmission to the fetus/infant, and with the range of treatments available, it's quite likely she will live a long life. HIV isn't the death sentence it used to be. Not saying I would do the same or that I can't see why others would have a problem with this, but it's unfair to judge her so harshly, especially after what she's been through already.

Well, here's why:

The couple broke up in 2008 and months later she was diagnosed with HIV and confronted Zaburoni in person.

Whose baby do you think that is?  Obviously not the first guy.  Did she knowingly expose herself to another guy five years after diagnosis?  Or does she have an HIV boyfriend that she is making little AIDS babies with?

But she's been handed a death sentence. The foulest, dirtiest disease possible, that will in fact kill her.  Might take awhile, but yeah, it's going to kill her. Through no bad behaviour of her own. So yeah, it's murder. Delayed murder, perhaps, but still murder.

Thanks to modern treatments, life expectancy for HIV (at least in the US) is roughly that of an uninfected person (about 70 years).

This isn't 1986 anymore.

If they can afford treatment. If not, they're maybe using tax dollars. Also they can't have sex. Well, they can, but they risk passing their shiat on to other people. Also there's the possibility of accidental/unintentional infection of others. For all we know, someone spread AIDS through blood-spray today during the marathon. Worse, emergency responders. Assholes like this guy need to be put down.

In Victorian times it was widely held that sleeping with a virgin would cure you of the clap. Since most of Africa appears to be operating at least 100 years behind the times in other areas (still burning witches, actually considering making homosexuality a capital offense, for example) this is hardly surprising.

It is also hardly surprising that given that backwardness and ignorance, it is one of the few places religion is growing.
