NobleHam: That's sweet, but I can't imagine why it would be necessary. The visiting runners presumably have places they were staying already, the wounded have hospitals. I suppose some might want some human hospitality, but this isn't a hurricane, no one lost their home.

All of the hotels in the vicinity of the explosion, where many runners were staying, were evacuated and are yet to reopen.

Leave it to the farkers to stomp on people trying to do the right thing.

I've never been to Boston, I dislike their baseball team with a violent passion, but c'mon people.... show some tact.

/doubtful any commenters here are runners.
//I'm not posting that cliched Mr. Rogers bullshiat, but just crawl back into mommy's basement and eat another bag of pork rinds. Don't rag on people that are trying to help

Not even religious, and I'll say Amen to that.

Nothing wrong with that, especially here on Fark.  Your wisecrack doesn't have any "too soon" to it, so it's even fine from that perspective.

Indeed. You wouldn't happen to know Uwe Boll's number, would you?

Ever hear the phrase "It's the thought that counts?"

A platitude at this point, I know. But having so many individuals offer up their homes has to have an impact on the public morale. Even if it doesn't, it isn't hurting.

So how are they not helping?

TyrantII: Amos Quito: Boston residents offer up their homes to those who might need them

Except for the homeless, o'course.

We're pretty good at having open shelters for those that need it.  Unfortunately most of the homeless refuse because of drug addiction or metal health issues with like in other states, is horribly underfunded.

Maybe you can give our statehouse some tips, eh?

The runners that had hotels in the finishing vicinity were having trouble getting their rooms. High security and investigations.

You have more of a chance of something bad happening to you by going into a stangers home or inviting a stranger into your home than you do by getting hurt by a bomb. Silly gesture is silly.

For the naysayers.  My daughter was in the city, a few block from the explosions.  They gathered at a friends apartment by Kenmore, they took in runners, and anyone else who appeared to need help.  Fed, watered, and more importantly, allowed them access to a telephone landline and the internet, so they could contact concerned family members.  Thus, some of those affected did indeed have social media access.

I can't make any statements as to whether or not anyone in need make it as far as Brookline, but it's not inconceivable.

Man, I've been on Reddit for too long. I was puzzled at not being able to upvote you. Have a "smart" and "funny" vote. People check that all the time.

swingerofbirches: Being lonely now makes you a hero?

With that offer extended, I think I'll refuse.

I'm not a hero, but thank you all the same.

I'm lonely.  And I'd find it very hard to share my home.  I would be afraid people would judge my housekeeping skills or not approve of the books on my bookshelves or things like that.  Lonely people are often intensely private, which might be one of the reasons they remain lonely.

If lonely people are offering to take in bomb survivors, kudos to them for overcoming their fears to reach out to other people in need.

Donkey Mustache.

It's somewhere in between a Donkey Punch and a Dirty Sanchez.

Someone super artistic should take a well known quote by Mr. Rogers and paste it over a photo of him, preferably doing something heart felt. Too bad no one is original enough to throw that one out. Maybe i should start a Facebook chain about it.
