Not fear. Look at the circumstances surrounding the bombings.
1. Tax Day
2. Approaching Waco and OKC anniversaries, holy days for survivalist nutjobs
3. Ultra Liberal city in extremely blue state
4. Event that often features Kenyans winning (have someone look up symbolism for you)
5. Crudely constructed bomb with ball bearings, most likely a pipe bomb that anyone in the Turner Diaries fan club can put together.

You may now resume waiting for Fox and Friends to tell you what you should really think.

or we could, ya know, just wait instead of playing armchair FBI profiler hoping and praying that the motherfarker who did this is, most importantly, a member of a particular group. That's what's most important after all, isn't it?

Farking disgusting.

I have no idea who did this. For all we know, it was a South African immigrant who had a grudge with one of the Liberian runners.
I'm merely pointing out that at this time, there is very little suggesting this was the work of muslim extremists, and more circumstances that suggest this could be the work of a militia type.

You may now resume pretending to be above it all.

If you think someone must be "pretending" to be disgusted by this ghoulish, childish farking nonsense, you're more farking broken than you first appear to be
Hell, even if you're trolling you're a disgusting excuse for a person.

Sensitive? No. Sorry to take you away from your asinine game of "Name the Perp". Please, continue, shiatstain.

I really hope this was a domestic source.

I mean, I realize the political bullshiat will be bad, but think about it:  If it's a foreigner we have MORE xenophobic, constant-war bullshiat that really is bad for this country.  If it's a Muslim we have more screaming islamophobia guiding foreign and domestic policy.  I don't particularly LIKE islam (even the non-wahhabist sects aren't particularly good) but the "religious freedumb except for muzzies" mindset is embarrassingly bad for the nation.

Moreover, ANY foreign source means we start profiling brown-skinned folk, adding more "security" at the expense of liberty, and ignore the continuing machinations of the looters and polluters and murderers and thieves that have made out like bandits the last 12 years.

But a right-wing domestic terror cell?  There will be enough spin and enough couching and enough soft-defense of "they don't speak for US and they don't count because and such" that we might, MIGHT not enjoy the same bullshiat we went through after 9/11.  Because when the enemy is "us" we find reasons for it not to matter as much.

I doubt we'll be that lucky though.  Say hello to further militarization of police forces, rolling back on marijuana legalization because someone made a (nonsensical) connection between "The drugs" and "the terrorists."  Prep for more financial fraud that's too big to prosecute, more double-standards where trust-funders get special exemptions while we get watch lists, and expect random cavity searches for just walking down the street.

Or maybe I'm just a pessimist.

Let's be realistic pessimists.

Don't know who did it, not about to armchair guess or hope for stupid reasons.  But no matter who did it, it's going to suck to go to any large event any more so than it already does.  Street fairs, football games, etc. - the cops in NYC are likely going to get to keep their crappy stop and frisk (your daily quota of young African American males) because of this. It's going to suck to be all of us trying to have a fun time at a well attended public event from here on out, and (I'd wager) it's gonna suck for us just trying to get home past such an event.  Folks in BFE will be unaffected for the most part, even though our food supply is stupidly obviously vulnerable.  Although to be fair, maybe those wanting to cause terror figure that the ever frequent factory farm recalls are kinda doing a better job than they could.

Marijuana is fine.  The tide is turning on that too damn quickly.   It might take longer for certain states, but at least the vast majority of the young population (I'd wager; I'd almost guarantee in states with legal medical MJ) respond to the terror = drugs argument with "well, if we f--king grew it here then that wouldn't be a problem, huh?".

Trust funders and Wall Streeters will be fine, because they always are.

First thing I thought of, sadly enough.

I know it's really damn early for all of this, but I'm extremely f--king curious to know what security precautions Boston had set up.  If this was something one freaking explosive sniffing dog passing over the route an hour prior could have prevented....

Okay, fine, more than one dog.  Y'know.  26 miles and all.  But start/finish damn well better have been checked out, because that's Common Sense.  I can't take a purse to go see a football game down the street.  Nor any drinks, water bottles, and a zillion other things.  I can only imagine what gets banned after this (kind of waiting for them to try to ban coats, since I have coats that can fit more in the pockets than my purse could ever dream of).

Anyway, it's far easier to monitor a place with designated points of entry and exit, but I assume "start line" and "finish line" certainly have those.

Whoever did it is a low life fracking coward. Speculation as to who is to blame is really more of a mirror on the accuser than it is based on empirical fact, at this point.

I wouldn't call it disgusting as much as it is human nature. So far there is a vacuum of information, and people fill this vacuum with their own prejudices. You should not wade in their collective mind-shiats if you find it offensive.

Right wingers are blaming foreigners, which doesn't seem to be the case since those seasoned groups claim responsibility in a rather timely fashion.

Liberals are hinting at the homegrown variety of terrorist, which actually fits the timing as well as the type of bomb used, but that's neither here nor there. Once an investigation is conducted, we will know who is responsible and put our collective boot up their ass(es).

My right-wing brother-in-law happened to be here when the news first hit. "They ought to immediately bomb the whole Middle East!" was his response.

"Why?" I said. "Given the liberal attitudes in Massachusetts on abortion, gay marriage, and gun control, I'm willing to bet the perp will turn out to be a White, Christian, Republican-voting, Glenn Beck-listening militia member with an NRA Life Membership in his wallet."

Which got me a disbelieving stare.

The fark does the price of gold have to do with anything?  (I know, that's like asking why Aladdin's flying carpet doesn't sag in the middle, but shouldn't there at least be some internal consistancy?)

Is there a time in history (not counting literature) before now that we have put the mentally ill on a pedestal and broadcast their rantings?

Would you count people that claim to talk to imaginary beings that tell everyone how they should behave in order to exist forever in love/bliss after they die instead of being tortured for eternity?
