They can't even set a new record, oh no, they can only tie it.  That is a Fail.

I interpreted that as "first time in 123 years", and I was going to say something about Rick Ankiel.  I guess the "123-year-old" part refers to an event not in TFA?

The article said they tied Rick Ankiel.

Sounds about right.

Have the Cubs stopped scalping their own tickets yet?  I mean, I remember how they said they were going to stop scalping them.  But did they actually stop?  Or does it still cost $50 to get a $9 face-value ticket?

Apparently they tied a regular season record.

Ankiel did it in the post season, which is extra-special.

Well, they do have a better record than Milwaukee right now. So, congrats to the Brewers for actually out-sucking the Cubs thus far.

That game was painful to watch.  The only saving grace was that I set the DVR to go one-hour past game time, and the recording stopped before the extra-innings carnage ended.

and balk in the winning run in the 10th ended in a 10-7 victory for the San Francisco Giants

I think this is the more damning happening of the game.

It would have been funny enough if it was just one guy, but would you believe this was the starter AND the reliever they brought in to get out of the jam?

No. Two seats (Upper Deck Box behind home plate) that used to cost about $50 total 10 years ago now cost, well, this much:

Gotta pay for the sale of the team somehow.  These Ameritrade guys didn't buy the Cubs to bring gifts to their fans.  I don't see how this could be a surprise to anyone.  It's gotten out of hand.  I used to go to dozens of games a year and sit in OK seats.  Games I didn't have tickets for I would just walk up to and get standing room to watch.  Now it's all "premium" games and making you buy tickets to seats you have no intention of sitting in.  Not planning on going to any games this year.

I plan on going to a good handful after the all-star break.  By that time you should be able to find fan owned tickets on Stubhub going for the minimum.  Ya the team is going to suck but a day at the ballfield is always better than a day stuck behind a desk.

A "wild" game Sunday at Wrigley Field that saw Cubs pitchers throw five wild pitches in one inning and balk in the winning run in the 10th

I see I am not missing much in my ever diminishing interest in the Cubs.

Back in the late 90's and early 2000s, I was working four 10-hour days and lived a block from Wrigley.  You'd find me at all night games, and most Fri/Sat/Sun games.  I think I was hitting about 40+ games a year.    Being a Cubs fan is a sickness that runs in my family.

At some point you take a step back and say "WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU", directed at both yourself and the Chicago Cubs.

it is.  that's a good plan.  I like going to the fall games no matter what place they are in.  Hoodie weather baseball is fun for me.  Free hat on Big Ten night. >_<

Yeah, but, then they lost in the World Series the next year against the Twins and their 13-year-old manager.

Oh I reread the original statement.... I thought it was an attempt to actually come up with Cub players names and not actual good Cubs players.

My mistake.

Say, just off-hand, would "actual good Cubs players" be at all akin to "British/Fark hot"?
